3 years after its release,The Book of Boba Fetthas seemingly become more than the low ratings it received upon its initial release. Starring Temuera Morrison as the titular Boba Fett, the live-actionStar Warsspin-off fromThe Mandalorianfocused on the former bounty hunter’s activities in the New Republic Era, as well as how he survived the events ofReturn of the Jedi. Now, it feels like fan reception to the show has warmed somewhat compared to when it first came out.
The Book of Boba Fettcontinues Fett’s journey following his appearance inThe Mandalorianseason 2,taking over from the late Jabba the Hutt as Mos Espa’s new daimyo. However, it also took time to address how Fett survived his counter with the Sarlacc pit inReturn of the Jedi, a concept that generated quite a bit of hype fromStar Warsfans leading up to the live-action series. While the show is not without its flaws, it seems as thoughThe Book of Boba Fetthas benefited from repeat viewings now that fans no longer have such high expectations.

The Book Of Boba Fett Is Still One Of Star Wars' Lowest-Rated TV Shows
The Show Has Its Flaws…
Three years later,The Book of Boba Fettis still one of the lowest-ratedStar Warsshows, having received a 66% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a 49% audience score. That being said, it also had one of the highest viewership numbers per episode during its initial release, trailing only behindThe MandalorianandObi-Wan Kenobi. However, it quickly became clear by the show’s finale that many people were disappointed by certain elements of the show, the primary complaint being that Boba Fett gradually started to feel like a background character in his own series.
5 Reasons Why Boba Fett’s Character Had To Change (& 5 Reasons Why We Wish He Hadn’t)
Boba Fett felt significantly different in The Book of Boba Fett compared to previous appearances, but was Star Wars right to make this change?
What hurtThe Book of Boba Fettthe most and the audience’s high expectations were the episodes that barely featured Fett himself in favor of Din Djarin, The Mandalorian.Featuring Grogu’s Jedi training with Luke Skywalkerand his eventual reunion with Djarin,an entire arc was given toThe Mandalorian’sduo in another character’s show, leading many to giveThe Book of Boba Fettthe nickname “MandalorianSeason 2.5”. This in turn likely hurtThe Mandalorianseason 3 too, as viewers had to be aware of critical events that transpired outside the show. Still, the arc itself is highly entertaining.

Likewise,The Book of Boba Fettalso suffered from some key plot struggles where the narrative often felt disjointed and staggered as Fett struggled to get a foothold over Mos Espa in the present while recalling his past surviving the Sarlacc and living with Tusken Raiders in his past. While both plots had potential and promise, the execution and frequent jumps between past and present really served to cut the momentum of both. It also didn’t help thatBoba Fett’s rivalry with Cad Bane wasn’t given the context or time it deserved either, (even though the showdown itself was very cool).
Boba Fett’s TV Show Is Receiving More Appreciation Now
The Show’s Reputation Seems To Have Improved
Keeping all of this in mind, it really does seem as thoughThe Book of Boba Fett’sreputation has improved with rewatches of theStar Warsseries. Devoid of the incredibly high expectations the show struggled to meet during its release,Star Warsfans can now watch the show for what it is. All things considered, what’s there is pretty fun all around, as Boba Fett and his allies still get to be awesome with strong action sequences (especially in the finale),and the episodes ofBoba Fettwith Din Djarin are highly entertaining, and arguably as good as anything inThe Mandalorianitself.
The Book of Boba Fettmay have its problems, but that hasn’t stopped the show from accumulating its defenders online. Likewise, it certainly feels like the support for the show has only improved three years later. As someone who really did enjoyThe Book of Boba Fett, it does make me hopeful for the future of the character.

Star Wars Fans Are Ready For More Of Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett
The Former Bounty Hunter Needs To Make A Return
Ultimately, enough time has passed that aBook of Boba Fettseason 2 seems pretty unlikely at this point. It also feels unlikely as Lucasfilm is increasing its efforts to return to the big screen with the upcomingMandalorian & Grogumovie in 2026. Regardless,Star Warsfans would love to see Temura Morrison return as Boba Fett, be that with an appearance in the upcoming Mandalorian film or even in his ownBoba Fettmovie as Lucasfilm originally intended before switching to a series.
“Whether you loved it or hated it,The Book of Boba Fettdidn’t seem to hurt fans' desire to see more of Boba Fett himself inStar Wars’future…”
Either way, it feels safe to say thatThe Book of Boba Fettplays much better with a rewatch. As a result, it likely has a relatively improved reputation three years later.Whether you loved it or hated it,The Book of Boba Fettdidn’t seem to hurt fans' desire to see more of Boba Fett himself inStar Wars’future either.
