Outlanderseason 7 dropped a massive twist regarding Faith Fraser’s character, and, at this point, all we can do is theorize how it will all work out in season 8. Of course, given the nature of this plot twist, it’s challenging to come up with an explanation that doesn’t seem entirely outlandish. Claire’s belief that her stillborn daughter, Faith Fraser, somehow lived is pretty outrageous on its own. Whatever explanationOutlanderseason 8 comes up with will have to be equally as wild—so the sky is the limit when it comes to developing theories for how Faith might have survived.

The infant was stillborn, and Claire was left entirely devastated. She almost died herself from infection, but Master Raymond appeared to heal her. Now, inOutlanderseason 7, Claire wasvisited in a dream by Master Raymond, who provided the first hints thatFaith had somehow lived on to have two children, Jane and Fanny. Precisely how this miracle happened is, for now, anyone’s guess.

While in France inOutlanderseason 2, Claire made a friend.Marie Louise de la Tour was also pregnant, though her unborn child was the bastard of none other than the bonnie Prince Charlie, the Scottish heir the Jacobites aimed to place on the throne.Louise came to visit Claire following her miscarriageand was the one who ultimately took the infant’s body from her mother to be buried.
Loise appeared visibly pregnant when she came to Claire’s bedside inOutlanderseason 2 and was seen instinctively holding her belly as she sadly watched Claire mourn her daughter. However, a prominent theory is thatLouise had already given birth to her baby and that this was the deceased infant in Claire’s arms. The idea here is that Louise took Claire’s living baby as her own to replace the one she had lost. This way, the Jacobites would have a living heir of Charles Stuart, regardless of what happened to the Bonnie Prince.

Claire was in and out of consciousness when she gave birth to Faith. When she woke up, Mother Hildegarde told her that the infant had been born dead, but Claire herself had no memory of this. The fact that Claire could only trust what she was told opens the door to more theories.For all Claire knew, she could have given birth to multiple babies. In the 18th century, there would have been no way for Claire to know she was carrying twins. Additionally, a pregnancy with multiples would further explain Claire’s preterm labor.

It would be the surviving twin that grew up to give birth to Jane and Fanny Pocock. Of course,this leaves the big question ofwhyMother Hildegarde would lie to Claire. Additionally, it’s unclear why the surviving baby would be named after the infant buried in France or how she would come to know the song “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside.” It seems that Master Raymond would have something to do with all of this, regardless.

Regardless of how Claire’s baby came to be alive, a significant part of the mystery here is where andwhenshe grew up. InOutlanderseason 2, Claire sang the 20th-century song “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside” to her deceased daughter, and Fanny Pocock singing this same song is what inspired Claire’s season 7 theory. However,it’s unclear how Faith came to know a song that she had seemingly only heard when she was a baby. What’s more, as a premature baby, it makes little sense that Faith could have survived in 18th-century France, even if Master Raymond managed to revive her.

The confusion regarding when and how Faith lived has inspired the theory that Master Raymond brought Claire’s baby to the future. Of course, even the mid-20th century might not have been enough for an infant as premature as Faith.Master Raymond is one ofOutlander’s time travelers and seems to have more control over his destination than others like Claire and Brianna.Perhaps the man brought Faith to the 21st centuryto grow up and be cared for by a modern family before she returned to the past as a teenager.
5Claire Goes Back In Time & Saves Her Own Daughter

Outlanderis no stranger to time travel paradoxes, and there could be another one at the center of season 7’s big Faith mystery. Though Claire hasn’t come into her full power yet, it’s mentioned several times throughoutOutlanderthat she shares the same magical ability to heal as Master Raymond. Since this mysterious figure came to Claire in a dream and apologized to her inOutlanderseason 7’s finale, it’s assumed that he is the one who brought Faith back to life. However, it’s possiblehe only said all of this to inspire Claire to go back and save her daughter herself.
After learning that Faith might have survived inOutlanderseason 7, Claire may decide to attempt to travel through the stones to the day she had her miscarriage in France to find answers. When she does, it may come down to her to heal her daughter. However, leaving the now-alive baby with the nuns could have caused a significant problem, especially considering the prevalent fear of witchcraft in France during this era. So,Claire would have taken the baby back to the 1770s to raise on Fraser’s Ridge—until the time came to return to the past, that is.
4The Spoon Jamie Left On Faith’s Grave Brought Her Back
Saint Andrew Is A Powerful Symbol
After Jamie was released from prison inOutlanderseason 2, he wanted to visit Faith’s grave. He brought his daughter a gift, which he left on the stone as a way to connect her to Scotland. It was a silver spoon with Saint Andrew carved into the handle. While this didn’t seem particularly significant at the time, theFaith twist in season 7retroactively changes the implication of Jamie’s gift.
Saint Andrew is known to have performed several miracles in God’s name,one of which was bringing a dead child back to life. It seems that, if anything, Jamie’s gift to Faith subtly foreshadowed the fact that she would return. However, a theory has developed that some magic was enacted when Jamie left the image of this particular saint on Faith’s grave. Of course, this would imply that she was only resurrected after she had been buried for several weeks. At this point in the game, however, anything is possible.
3Geillis Duncan Kidnapped Faith Fraser & Brought Her Back
AnotherOutlandercharacter with the same potential to heal as Claire and Master Raymond is Geillis Duncan. She started the series as a friend to Claire, but over time, it became clear that she would do almost any despicable thing to achieve her goals. Geillis' entire reason for going back in time was to aid the Jacobite cause and put a Scot on the throne. At some point in time,she might have thought that saving Jamie and Claire’s baby would assist in this.
Outlander Season 7’s Returning Character Hints At A Massive Possible Twist Ending
Outlander season 7 is bringing back some characters from the past, and the fact that this is even possible opens the door for an intriguing twist.
Geillis died inOutlanderseason 3 when Claire was forced to kill her to save Brianna’s life. However,Outlanderseason 7 has already demonstrated that Geillis is still alive at different points in the timeline. Roger met her in 1739 when he accidentally arrived at the wrong time after slipping through the standing stones. Perhaps a past version of Geillis will decide that Faith Fraser is key to her goal, especially sincetaking this baby through time could technically qualify her as the 200-year-old baby of prophecy.

Another prominent but entirely wild theory amongOutlanderfans is that Faith Fraser and Geillis Duncan are one and the same person. They do, after all, share some similarities. Geillis and Faith are both redheads, and they both seemingly possess the time-traveling gene. Perhaps Master Raymond brought the baby back from the dead and brought her to the future, where she was raised in the 20th century before she eventually set off on her time-traveling adventure to assist the Jacobite cause.

However, considering the reveal thatWilliam unknowingly slept with his niece inOutlanderseason 7, this theory wouldn’t be outside the scope of the Romantasy series.
He Could Be Deceiving Claire
At the end ofOutlanderseason 7, it’s heavily implied that Claire’s big theory about Faith’s survival is correct. Master Raymond apologized for something in Claire’s dream, and it can be assumed that he was remorseful for keeping her daughter from her for all those years. However, it’s possible that the mysterious manwas actually apologizing for the tumultuous journey Claire would face simply for believing that Faith livedand for the disappointments she will experience when she realizes it isn’t true.
Master Raymond guides time travelers inOutlanderwith a specific goal in mind. However, his motivation has not yet been revealed.
If this is the case, then it would seem that Master Raymond only wants Claire to believe that her daughter lived—even though she actually didn’t. Master Raymond is a time-traveling puppet master, and he may only be manipulating Claire inOutlanderseason 7 to ensure that she does what he wants.His goal would surely be to inspire Claire to embrace her healing powerssince it has been years since she learned of them but hasn’t yet exercised this magic. Still, precisely why it’s important to Master Raymond that Claire learns to heal is unclear. Like with every other wildOutlandertheory, it will take season 8 to prove or disprove.
