Taylor Sheridan’sLandmanconcluded its first season with an action-packed climax, but it also laid the foundation for the show’s next season. FollowingYellowstoneandTaylor Sheridan’s other TV shows, the writer/producer has become Paramount+’s greatest asset, developing several original series for them and allowing them to remain a prominent contender in the streaming wars.Landmanis his latest contribution to the site, assembling an all-star cast for a neo-Western oil drama that utilized some of the best aspects of his storytelling talent.

Billy Bob Thornton ledLandman’sseason 1 castas Tommy Norris, an oil crisis management executive for a private company called M-Tex. He worked under Jon Hamm’s Monty Morris, a big city oil magnate who unfortunately passed away inLandman’sseason 1 ending.Tommy and Monty were long-term friends before Tommy began working under him, making him feel responsible for taking care of Monty’s familyand legacy now that he’s gone. On top of that, there are numerous subplots and other conflicts to pick up.

9Tommy Will Work With Andy Garcia’s Gallino

Tommy Might Have A Sketchy New Business Partner

Andy Garcia made a cameo appearanceat the very end ofLandmanseason 1, playing the new character Gallino. Unlike Jiminez, who was a low-level Cartel boss,Gallino is a real-deal drug lord who’s only interested in making money. While he presented himself in a kindly manner toward Tommy, it’s clear that this man is no one to brush off and could turn vicious at any moment, especially given how he brutally took down his own men.

Gallino knows his business will die eventually, and he wants to get a stake in oil before it’s too late.

A crucial aspect of Gallino is thathe doesn’t want to just return to how things were, with M-Tex and the Cartel ignoring each other and continuing with business; he wants them to work together. Gallino knows his business will die eventually, and he wants to get a stake in oil before it’s too late. He’ll likely make himself very reliable to Tommy going forward until Tommy ends up in a desperate situation, which is when Gallino can really take hold of him.

8Rebecca Will Negotiate The Farm-Out Deal

Rebecca Is Making The First Move For Tommy

Rebecca still has to find her place at M-Tex, especially after her antagonistic relationship with Tommy throughoutLandmanseason 1. With that being said, Monty made her his Vice President of Exploration, so Tommy wants to honor his wishes and involve her. Tommy knows her strengths as a negotiator, andhe wants her to sort out a farm-out deal to begin their next stage of production, acquiring access to new land to drill oil on.

Landman Season 2: Confirmation, Cast & Everything We Know

Taylor Sheridan’s newest drama series, Landman, has struck oil on Paramount+, and now the Billy Bob Thornton-led series has earned a season 2 renewal.

To put it simply, a farm-out deal is an agreement between the landowner and oil company to allow drilling access, reducing the risk for the landowner in return for a share of the profit. The oil company, in this case, M-Tex, takes the more significant financial risk, as they supply the equipment and workers but will also be the primary players to profit. Tommy is hoping to flip $200 million into $1.4 billion for Cami, and Rebecca negotiating this initial deal will get the ball rolling.

Cooper Norris (Jacob Lofland) looking hopeful in Landman season 1, episode 9

7Cooper Is Beginning His Own Oil Business

Cooper Signed His First Contract

The back half ofLandmanseason 1 saw Cooper growing fond of Ariana, with episode 9 revealing his plan to take care of her financially through the oil business. Despite only working on the patch for a short time, Cooper has grown up around this industry, and he’s discovered astrategy that means acquiring numerous affordable leases to drill on that wouldn’t be worth much individually but that he can profit from by accumulating dozens of.

Episode 9 saw Cooper signing his first deal with relative ease, but it won’t always go this smoothly. Season 2 will see Cooper beginning to experience hurdles in his plans, either from landowners refusing to cooperate or competitors giving him problems. Now that he’s signed a deal with minimum resources to back himself up, he’s going to have to find a way to make this work.

6Cooper & Ariana’s Relationship Will Continue To Grow

Cooper Said The Right Words, Now He Has To Prove Himself

Cooper’s other narrative is his direct relationship with Ariana. After the oil explosion in episode 1, which made Ariana a widow, she’s been fairly inconsistent in terms of demonstrating her affection. She knows she’s fond of Cooper, as he expresses love for her in a way her husband never did, but she still has a deep connection with the father of her son that she’ll have to move past if she wants to have a healthy relationship with a new man.

Cooper handled the situation well, allowing her to grieve in front of her

Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy speaking in Landman season 1 episode 10

Landman’sseason 1 finale saw the young couple making progress, as Ariana began to push Cooper away as she grieved for her late husband. However, Cooper handled the situation well, allowing her to grieve in front of her. Rather than take offense to her feelings for another man,Cooper was empathetic to her grief and knew it wasn’t about him, choosing to comfort herinstead of letting her be alone in her feelings. Bravo, Cooper.

5Ainsley & Ryder’s Relationship Will Develop

Bible Study Continues…

Ainsley met high school football phenom Ryder in the back half ofLandmanseason 1, and the respectably boneheaded but seemingly genuine young man almost immediately fell in love with her. Theseason 1 finale saw the pair confessing their love for one anotherafter a bizarre sequence where she bargained for him to provide a lap dance for some lovely old ladies.

It will be interesting to see what complications this pair has, with their drama so far primarily revolving around Tommy and Ainsley’s relationship. Tommy loves his daughter, but he’s worried about her growing up too quickly and wants her to make safe choices and protect her as long as he can. This means being particularly strict toward Ryder, soit would be interesting to see the young man earn Tommy’s respect. It could also be enjoyable to see more of their high school experiences now that they’re attending the same school.

4Cami Should Play A More Significant Role Going Forward

Cami Can Fulfill Monty’s Legacy Or Succumb To His Fate

Demi Moore recently won a Golden Globe for her role in the filmThe Substance, meaning a career resurgence for the 62-year-old actress who was a box office star in the 1990s. Taylor Sheridan may have booked Demi Moore inLandmanseason 1, not expecting this surge, hence the reason she’s barely been in the show so far. Now, with her being on the minds of so many film and television fans, bringing her back for an increased role is an outstanding opportunity.

Cami made a critical decision inLandman’sseason 1 finale, essentially deciding the fate of Monty’s wealth. Knowing Monty,Cami decides to re-invest his wealth in M-Tex, despite Tommy telling her to keep it for her family. However, Cami believed Monty wanted to do something good with his money, and doesn’t think she has enough to provide him with the legacy he deserved. Season 2 will show her back in the game.

3Tommy Will Have To Fulfill More Of Monty’s Responsibilities

Tommy Might Find Himself In The Boardroom

Tommy is fantastic as a ground-level management guy, dealing with local landowners, oil patch crews, and even the Cartel. It’s much harder to imagine him in boardrooms with wealthy investors, given his crude language and general disdain for BS. Tommy could excel in this environment, giving businessmen something they’re not expecting and not used to, but he probably won’t make any friends in the process.

Aside from just his tasks, Tommy is going to be the one stressing over M-Tex from top to bottom now that he’s the primary decision-maker. It’s still not his wealth, but he’s made an agreement to help Cami in his dead friend’s name, and his honor is at stake in his journey going forward.Tommy’s decisions not only impact him, but they also impact Monty’s legacy, his family, and an entire company of employees who need to be paid.

2Rebecca Is Still On The Fence About Tommy & M-Tex

Rebecca Doesn’t Know About Working For An Oil Company

Rebecca Falcone is a complicated character, as even though she works as a lawyer for an oil company, she’s morally against many of their actions. She arrived in the early episodes with an immediate distaste for Tommy and the general way of life in West Texas, and this only developed throughout the season. Even though they got along for brief moments, matters took a turn for the worse when she threatened to legally target Cooper.

Landman Season 2: What Happens To M-Tex Oil Now (Oil Fracking Plans Explained)

Landman’s season 1 finale sets up its stakes for the future. Season 2 will determine the fate of M-Tex, so here’s what we know about the plan.

Rebecca’s ego was hurt when she failed to close the deal with Ariana and the other widows, but the season 1 finale suggested that might be in the past. She’s still on the fence about her new role, but she doesn’t seem as vehemently against Tommyas she was at other points. She knows she has a job to do and a career to develop, though she’ll still always be a wild card.

1Angela Continues To Discover Herself

Angela Seems To Be Growing As A Person

Angela startsLandmanseason 1 being relatively irresponsible, but things take a turn for her when she moves back in with Tommy. Though she’s still young-looking,Angela seems to begin reckoning with her age and mortality, especially when she returns to her husband’s home to get her car. With that in mind, she’s trying to find new ways to find value in her life, including cooking fancy meals for her family and spending time at the old folks home.

Angela’s narrative was tangential to Tommy’s for the most part, and it seems like she’ll be even more disconnected from his business if he continues to be involved with the Cartel. ForLandmanto work, however, it’s important that Angela and Ainsley are well-written and can contribute to the stakes of the main plotline.

Landman
