Similar to the Disney+ animated seriesTales of the Jedi’santhology-style storytelling, theStar Wars: Jedi Knightscomic series aims to focus each issue on a single Jedi’s story. Though there will be team ups with other Jedi, the story following the main character of each issue will be limited to that single issue.

Jedi Knightsauthor Guggenheim gave insight into his upcoming series in an interview on the YouTube channel “Star WarsExplained.”Discussing his approach to storytelling, Guggenheim stated thatStar Wars: Jedi Knightswill take placebeforeThe PhantomMenaceand are isolated stories. Guggenheim said:

My story is about the Jedi Knights, sort of at the height of their powers, pre-Phantom Menace. The way the book works is [that] it’s a little bit like the old Marvel team-ups where we’ll get different combinations of Jedi in each issue, and each issue is done in one. Each one’s like its own little miniStar Warsmovie.

Each issue being a “mini-movie” would give further depth to these characters. Prior toThe Phantom Menace, the Jedi Order was not only massive, but barely had any opposition, as they were known as peacekeepers. However, during the time betweenEpisode 1 andAttack of the Clones, war resulted in the Jedi taking up military positions.

Guggenheim’s approach to writingStar Wars: Jedi Knightsas an anthology of stories as opposed to one overarching plot means endless possibilities for the Jedi fans have come to know and love. It will be interesting to see the type of dynamics betweendifferent combinations of Jedi with very individual personalities, approaches to how to use the Force, and beliefs.Qui-Gon Jinn, for instance, was known to be a more progressive thinking Jedi, sometimes clashing with the Order’s strict rules.

Individual Stories Will Give Each Character Their Time to Shine, Which Has Worked Before For The Franchise

Star WarsIs No Stranger To Anthologies

An anthology approach toStar Warshas proven to be successful in the past, from theclassicStar Wars Talescomic anthology, to theaforementionedTales of the Jediseries, each episode of which focused on a different Jedi – for example,Ahsoka and Count Dooku– and an isolated issue they are up against. If the popularity ofTales of the Jedireflects fans' interest in personal stories about Jedi, thenGuggenheim’sStar Wars: Jedi Knightsis sure to be a hit, as Marvel Comics pushesStar Warscomics in exciting new directions.
