Joining Miranda, Andy, and Emily (played by Emily Blunt) atRunwaymagazine is Nigel, played by Stanley Tucci. Nigel isRunway’s art director, and as such, he works closely with Miranda, to the point where they become very close. Despite being a supporting character,Nigel is an unforgettable and key presence inThe Devil Wears Prada.
The sequel toThe Devil Wears Pradawas announced to be in early development in July 2024, with Frankel in talks to return as director. The Devil Wears Prada Ending Explained
In The Devil Wear’s Prada, Andy (Anne Hathaway) gets a job as assistant to high-powered, demanding fashion editor, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep).
It’s also understood that Nigel was key, along with Miranda, in making Runway what it is.

If any supporting characters fromThe Devil Wears Pradashould return in the sequel, that’s Tucci’s Nigel. The character provided kindness and empathy in an environment plagued with ambition, selfishness, and betrayal, and Andy might not have gone as far in her career in the fashion world without him. It’s also understood that Nigel was key, along with Miranda, in makingRunwaywhat it is. IfThe Devil Wears Prada 2is about Miranda looking to revitalize her failing magazine, she’s going to need Nigel for that.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 Must Deliver Justice For Nigel After Miranda’s Betrayal
One Of Miranda’s Worst Actions Was Against Nigel
Not only is Nigel an important character inThe Devil Wears Prada, but he also deserves justice after Miranda’s betrayal in the first movie. While in Paris for Fashion Week, Nigel tells Andy that he took a job as creative director with designer James Holt. Later that night, Andy learns from writer Christian Thompson (Simon Baker) that Jacqueline Follet from FrenchRunwayis set to replace Miranda as the EIC in New York. Andy, concerned for Miranda after also learning that her husband has filed for divorce, tries to warn her, but she’s dismissive.
The Devil Wears Pradadoesn’t reveal where Nigel goes after the betrayal or if he continues to be friends with Miranda.
At a luncheon, Miranda surprises Andy and Nigel by announcing Follet as Holt’s new creative director and later reveals that she already knew of the plans to replace her.To keep her job, Miranda betrays Nigel, and it’s understood that he leavesRunway. The Devil Wears Pradadoesn’t reveal where Nigel goes after the betrayal or if he continues to be friends with Miranda, so it’s only fair to give him justice and closure in the sequel.
With Miranda’s career not what it was once and seemingly desperate to revive her magazine (there’s a reason why she’s calling Emily and not Andy, after all),The Devil Wears Prada 2can show how Nigel went on to succeed while Miranda’s decline began. Whether Nigel would accept to help Miranda or not is to be seen, but he deserves a good future after what she did to him.
