Exploring The Sunlit Wetlands Will Yield Frog-Based Results

The Sunlit Wetlands hold a few secrets, but the Addled Frog is one that has to be approached carefully. As players enter the Wetlands, they’ll encounter Auntie Ethel and Mayrina’s brothers in an argument. Deal with this confrontation however you wish; it has no bearing on the frog-quest you’re on.

Eventually, you’ll realize one way or another that you should follow Auntie Ethel deeper into the Wetlands to see what happened to Mayrina. On the way, you’ll encounter the Addled Frog in the northeastern part of the area.If you’ve already talked to and defeated Auntie Ethel, the Frog will greet you gratefully. If you haven’t, the Frog might be ready to fight.

How To Help The Addled Frog

Chat With Auntie Ethel And Get Her To Leave

When you go to talk with the Addled Frog, you’ll quickly realize that it’s in a bad state. It will keep repeating a line about “Green leaves, Shallow water…” andif you talk to it enough times, it’ll attack you unless you pass an Animal Handling check. If you pass, it’ll tell you to leave it alone, so if you’re not looking for a fight, it’s best to back away.

Based on your interaction with the Addled Frog, you should deduce thatgetting rid of Auntie Ethelis the best way to help out this frog. After defeating (or helping) the Hag, you can return to the frog. You’ll still need to be able to speak with animals, so verify you have the spell or aPotion of Animal Speakingon hand.

Fighting The Addled Frog In BG3

With 22 AC And 20 Dexterity, This Frog Is One Tough Opponent

If you bug the frog one too many times before dealing with Auntie Ethel, you’ll find yourself in combat with one of the most unique enemies inBaldur’s Gate 3.The Addled Frog has a 22 Armor Class and a 20 to DEX,which means not only will it be tough to hit, but it also has a special condition that makes hitting it even more difficult. Check out howCostin Gaming’s fight went in their video on YouTube.

The Addled Frog’s “Reflective Mucus” condition increases its AC by 2 and also “reflects the first projectile flying towards it back at the attacker, after which the mucus is removed.“You’d think that the solution to avoiding this is to hit it with melee attacks, but no.The Addled Frog also has a feature called “Toxic Secretions,” which means “when the enemy makes a melee attack against the frog, they need to succeed with a CON saving throw or succumb to Madness for two turns.”

To summarize, not only will the Addled Frog throw your first projectile attack back at you, it’ll also hit your party members with the Madness debuff if you attempt to hit it with a melee attack.Thankfully, the Addled Frog has a relatively small amount of HP at only 12, so once you get a few good hits, you should be fine.If you hit it with oneMagic Missileprojectile, the first hit’s damage will be reflected, but the second and third should take down quite a bit of its health.

The best strategy for dealing with the Frog quickly is to hit it with an AoE spell likeCloud of Daggersthat can’t be dodged.

It’s worth noting that killing the Addled Frog inBaldur’s Gate 3provides only 1 EXP, and it drops nothing, so picking a fight isn’t really worth it. Avoid doing this by accident, and you’ll save time and be given the rewards that the Frog has hidden for free. Unless you’re going forone of the new Dark Urge endings, there’s no real reason to engage in combat here, so help the Frog out and grab your rewards.
