Releasing shortly afterWind and Truth’sDecember release,this year’s blog post delivered unfortunate news, with him predicting the nextStormlight Archivebook releasing in December 2031, meaning a seven-year wait between volumes.

For Cosmere fans, Brandon Sanderson still has plenty in progress to look forward to.Isles of the Emberdarkwill see its wide release in 2026, and newMistbornandElantrisbooks will be hitting shelves before the decade is over. With the increasing number of Cosmere connections in each series, these could very easily incorporateStormlight Archivecharacters or references. For now, however,Wind and Truth’sendingwill be the final novel on Roshar for the time being.

After the second and third books inThe Stormlight Archive, Brandon Sanderson released novellas to expand on supporting characters.Edgedancerexpanded on Lift whileDawnshardcontinued Rysn’s story. Though these shorter stories didn’t have enormous consequences onThe Stormlight Archive, they’re still enjoyable and offered some supplementary material during the wait for the much larger full-length volumes.Sanderson’s next Roshar story is set to be a novella about Rock and the Horneaters.

The novella’s events will occur during the events ofRhythm of War, so it won’t provide any updates on the state of Roshar after book 5.

As of now,theHorneaternovella was anticipated to have a December 2026 release, but Sanderson has had to postpone the project due to other work, but it’s still on his mind and will surely be out before 2031. The novella’s events will occur during the events ofRhythm of War, so it won’t provide any updates on the state of Roshar after book 5. Still, it’s certainly better than nothing, and it could provide additional emotional value to Rock’s story, bolstering a fan-favorite supporting character.
