The following contains spoilers for Citadel: Diana, now streaming on Prime VideoCitadel: Diana’sending sets the stage for a deeply personal story to become a driving force in an otherwise dangerous world of back-stabbing and subterfuge. Set within the same universe as Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra’sCitadel,Citadel: Dianashowcases the world of espionage from the perspective of Diana. A double-agent within the villainous Manticore criminal organization, Diana is spared the gruesome fate of many of her allies when Citadel was brought down.
Remaining undercover, the stand-aloneCitadel: Dianacharts Diana’s efforts to remain in the good graces of the dangerous Zani family and her unexpected romance with one of them, Edoardo. By the ending of season 1, both Diana and Edo have been forced to cross serious lines in the name of helping the ones they love, even as circumstances seem to pushCitadel: Diana’s charactersagainst one another. Here is howCitadel: Dianaends and how it sets up potential future stories within theCitadeluniverse.

How Does Jupiter Work In Citadel: Diana
Manticore Has A Dangerous Super Weapon
One of the key elements ofCitadel: Dianais the introduction of Jupiter, a dangerous bio-weapon that could change the face of the world at large. Originally designed by Citadel, Jupiter was lost to the agency when it was brought down by their criminal counterpart Manticore in 2022. However, in-fighting within Manticore’s organization led to different branches of the group having different parts of the weapon’s blueprints. The hunt for the drives containing these blue-prints is at the heart of the show, eventually leading to Manticore Italy’s Edoardo Zani acquiring it and revealing it’s a technology that infects living people.
By the end ofCitadel: Diana,Edoardo intends to use the Jupiter’s parasitic nanobot transmitters to infect a public water system, exposing countless humans to his spying efforts. This could allow Manticore to monitor potentially limitless numbers of people, especially as the system presumably spread to the rest of the world. Already a potentially world-changing device, Edoardo’s father Ettore ensured the Jupiter also contained the ability to kill any infected targets, making it a perfect killing machine. Jupiter’s existence inCitadelmakes future seasons all the more horrifying, as the weapon could be used to massacre entire populations.

Diana’s Doomed Attempt At A Regular Life, Explained
Having served as one of Citadel’s undercover agents within Manticore, Diana had barely survived the initial fall of her organization by continuing her work with the Zani family. The dangers of this double-life and the complicated moral conflicts that arise because of her growing feelings for the more well-meaning Edo lead her to turn back to her sister, Sara. Although they both suffered from the death of their parents years prior,Sara was eventually able to move and start a new family of her own. By contrast, Diana’s investigation into the event led her directly to Citadel and Manticore.
This separation highlights Diana’s choices inCitadel: Dianaand how her efforts to get justice for her family has only driven her away from what remains of it.

This separation highlights Diana’s choices inCitadel: Dianaand how her efforts to get justice for her family has only driven her away from what remains of it. This builds to the events of “Jupiter,” which reveals that Sara and her family are moving to Iceland. Although Sara tries to convince Diana to go with her and makes it clear that her sister will always have a place in her home, it’s clear from their goodbye that Diana isn’t ready to escape her world of espionage and conflict.
Who Does Edo Kill In Citadel: Diana’s Season Finale
Edo Makes A Fateful Decision Between Diana And His Father
One of the big reveals of “Jupiter” is Edo’s discovery that Jupiter has been modified so it can kill anyone that has become infected with the nanotechnology. Serving as a mirror against his family’s dark ambitions, Edo’s feelings for Diana help ensure her a future within Manticore. However, his father doubts her loyalty and insists that she be eliminated. This sets up her climactic fight with the Zani agent Matteo, one that Diana barely wins.Edo also resists his father’s orders to kill Diana, and instead reveals he’s actually infected Ettore with Jupiter as well.
Unaware of how Diana’s battle fares and frustrated with his father’s refusal to call Matteo off, Edo ends up killing his father with Jupiter. This is a dark turn for the character, who had actively argued that he could be trusted to take Manticore and use its resources to make the world a safer place. Edo’s decision plays off his father’s accusations that they are more alike than Edo would like to admit, revealing how ruthless he can really be when the situation calls for it.Edo’s descent into darkness makes him one of the more compelling members of Manticore.

Who Does Diana Side With In Citadel: Diana’s Ending
Diana May Still Be A Secret Agent Within Manticore
At the end ofCitadel: Diana, the titular agent has found herself torn between various different factions. On the one hand, she seems to harbor a deep-seated loyalty to Citadel even after its collapse, as seen when she becomes relieved to discover that her mentor Gabriele has also survived and is working to protect her. On the other hand,Diana has been forced to confront the moral lines Citadel would crossand can see the hopeful potential of Edo through their relationship, even leading her to carry out assignments for him.
While Diana seems to end season 1 ofCitadel: Dianaaligned with the defunct spy organization, her feelings for Edo may further complicate her mission.

This gives Diana one of the more complex roles in the franchise so far, as her adventures have done a good job of fleshing out the world and what the state of play is like in this setting. Manticore isn’t some overwhelming force like it was in the firstCitadel, but rather a fractured alliance that is prone to in-fighting and could be changed by the right leadership. While Diana seems to end season 1 ofCitadel: Dianaaligned with the defunct spy organization, her feelings for Edo may further complicate her mission.
Will Diana Cross Over With The Rest Of Citadel?
How Diana, Edo And Jupiter Could Play IntoCitadelSeason 2 OrCitadel: Honey Bunny
One of the unique aspects ofCitadelas a franchise is the way the story has been split up across several different shows and stories. Diana’s mission could bring her into conflict or alliance with the heroes ofCitadelor the upcomingCitadel: Honey Bunny. Although each show follows different agents in the aftermath of Citadel’s collapse, they could easily run into one another. The ending ofCitadel: Dianamakes that crossover potential particularly exciting, given the developments of Manticore’s Italian branch.
Citadel: Honey Bunnywill debut on Prime Video on November 7, while season 2 ofCitadelis expected to debut on Prime Video in 2025.

Diana being a double-agent in Manticore could make her an invaluable ally and source for information for other agents, but it could also mean that to keep her cover she’ll have to fight them publicly. Her own conflicted feelings about Edo and her role as a spy might give these battles an additional edge, complicating matters for everyone involved. Beyond that, the existence of Jupiter as a super weapon could spur on more conflict within Manticore. Given the ending ofCitadel: Diana,it’d be surprising to not see the character crossover with the rest of the franchise.
The True Meaning Of Citadel: Diana’s Ending
Duty Is The Death Of Love
The ending ofCitadel: Dianasets the stage for season 2 and beyond, introducing a dangerous wildcard element in the form of Jupiter. At the core of this story is one of potential, both good and bad. Diana frequently has the potential to escape her situation, especially if she were to try and go into hiding with her sister’s family. However, Diana is too committed to her work and too drawn to Edo to truly escape the world of espionage she’s become adjusted to. This potential can also be seen in Edo, whose softer side is hardened by the events of the season’s finale.
