Once you reach the Modern Age inSid Meier’s Civilization 7,you’ll have the choice to focus on three distinct ideologies: Democracy, Fascism, and Communism. Each has their unique benefits, and choosing a particular Ideology will have implications with other leaders in the campaign. Your choice of Ideology can depend on a number of factors and will largely be based on what strategy orLegacy Paths you planon pursuing toward an eventual victory. Each Ideology unlocks certain effects and social policies that are catered around two particular resources, and has a total of three Civics associated with it.
To unlock the Ideology Civic Trees, you first have to unlock the initial Modern Age Civics, Social Question, Modernization, and Natural History, then complete the Political Theory Civic. You’ll then have the choice to study one of the three Ideology paths and are locked into that decision for the remainder of the game. Once you’ve committed to an ideology, opponents will also have the option to choose an Ideology, and if you’repursuing a Military Victory, you’ll want to wage war against someone following one of the other two Ideologies that you didn’t choose.

What Democracy Does In Civ 7
Democracy Boosts Happiness & Culture
The Democracy Civic instantly awards you four infantry units and both a Cultural and Diplomatic Attribute point. It will also unlock the Fireside Chats and Suffrage Social Policies. Fireside Chats gives you+4 Happiness from Specialists at the cost of -3 Gold in all Towns, while Suffrage gives you +3 Culture from Specialists at the cost of -3 Production in Towns.
Democracy opens up Liberalism and then the Progressivism Civics, which both unlock further social policies. This Ideology is ideal for a Cultural Victory, at least in theory - based on the way theCultural Victory works, Culture isn’t actually an essential resource in the Modern Age.

Production in Towns is converted to Gold, so both the Suffrage and Fireside Chats social policies will impact the treasury.
One useful social policy unlocked in Progressivism is the New Deal, as itincreases production toward Wonders. The World’s Fair Cultural Victory condition is considered a Wonder. This social policy will increase the rate of Production toward it, though at this point it’s likely you’ll be in good shape if you completed the Cultural Legacy Paths from the previous Ages.

Democracy and its associated Civics are also good drivers for Celebrations in the Modern Age. This is due to the high Happiness increases from each social policy, particularly Welfare State, which boosts Happiness based on your Attribute investment.
What Fascism Does In Civ 7
Fascism Boosts Production & Gold
The Fascism Civic instantly awards three Cavalry units and both a Militaristic and Economic Attribute point. Further, it will unlock both the Dirigisme and Assembly Line social policies. Dirigisme gives you a +6 Gold boost from Specialists at the cost of -3 Happiness in Towns, while Assembly Line gives a +3 Production boost to Specialists at the cost of -3 Food in Towns.
Fascism also opens up the Radicalism and Absolutism Civics. This includes the Martial Law, Propaganda, and other social policies that boast both Military and Economic features. Clearly, this Ideology would be favorable for an Economic or Militaristic Victory.

Best Ways To Get Gold In Civ 7
Civilization 7 features many different ways to get Gold and the best methods include Gold buildings, attributes, Mementos, social policies, and more.
Fascism is a great way to increase your Gold reserves, whether to begin purchasing Military units and developing a massive army, or to build Factories and Rail Stations to pursue an Economic Victory.Gold is an essential and widely useful resourceand can help toward any type of victory. For that reason, Fascism might be one of the best default Ideologies to grab if you’re unsure exactly how you plan to pull off a win. The -3 Happiness in Towns can easily be offset with the extra Gold you’ll receive from Fascism’s various social policies.

What Communism Does In Civ 7
Communism Boosts Science & Food
The Communism Civic automatically awards three ranged units and unlocks both an Expansionist and Scientific Attribute point. It also unlocks the Productive Forces Determinism social policy, which gives+3 Science from Specialists at the cost of -3 Gold in Towns, and the Proletariat social policy, which grants +6 Food from Specialists at the cost of -3 Happiness in Towns. Centralism and Socialism are the two other Communism Civics, and will be ideal if pursuing the Scientific Victory and Space Race Projects because of its various Science-boosting social policies and Public Works, a social policy that boosts Production toward projects.
Civ 7’s Civilopedia Is Missing Several Key Features, But There’s An Easy Solution To Fix It
Civ 7’s Civilopedia is a bit messy and needs a major overhaul due to a lack of useful search features, conflicting and confusing entries, and more.
There’s no questionCommunism is the best path if you’re in the Space Race, and advancing Science is also necessary to advance technologies and keep an updated Military. This makes Communism a decent choice for a Military Victory as well, depending on your leader and Civ combination.

Communism also you to benefit when other players wage war against you or while fending off invading forces. Defense of the Motherland gives+3 Combat Strength while on home turf, while Police State increases Happiness by +8 while at war. Increased Food will allow the placement of more Specialists as well, a further benefit of Communism.
You Should (Usually) Choose Fascism In Civ 7
Fascism Boosts The Most Useful Resources
Because Gold and Production are arguably the most versatile resources in the Modern Age,Fascism is overwhelmingly the best choice of Ideologyfor nearly all situations. The exception is if you are planning to go for a Scientific Victory, in which case Communism makes much more sense.
The worst option is easily Democracy, due to how little Culture matters in the Modern Age. The Geographic Society Legacy Path only requires one Civic to start pursuing, which is available right away (i.e., Natural History). After that, you may send out Explorers to collect Artifacts and build Museums without the need for Culture at all.

Civ 7: Why Wars Should Persist Across Ages
In Sid Meier’s Civilization 7, wars do not persist across the Ages, and all troops will be reset and diminished, and it’s a big momentum killer.
Fascism is a clear winner, with the line of thinking being thatGold and Production are equally useful no matter what victory you pursue, but very obviously for an Economic or Military win. Ideology choice should also be somewhat based on whether you plan to pursue a Military Victory, as you may have strategic positioning at this point to go after a particular civilization over others. Make sure your targeted opponent isn’t of the same Ideology to maximize points in the Military Legacy Path. While all Ideologies have their use-cases, Fascism is the clear favorite inCivilization 7.
