Players ofCyberpunk 2077will know Regina Jones as the main fixer in the Watson district. She’s an ex-media, still with her finger on the pulse, who hires V for various gigs around her area. But she’s unique among fixers in that Regina has another quest line she’s involved in:the “Cyberpsycho Sightings.”

Early in the game, she’ll ask V to help her find and neutralize cyberpsychos -those driven mad by their implants who engage in mass violence- but still keep them alive. Regina claims to be working with agroup that can treat cyberpsychosis, and wants to help these people recover rather than be put down by the NCPD. V can incapacitate 17 cyberpsychos across the city in return for payment from Regina, who will express her gratitude if V shows these people mercy. But one fan theory posits that Regina is just as bad as the NCPD, if not worse, and isgiving these cyberpsychos over to a group who will use and abuse them: MaxTac.

Why It Seems Like Regina Is Working For MaxTac

A Deal With The Devil

It’s pretty common knowledge that MaxTac, the high-powered branch of the NCPD that deals with high-risk situations, hascyberpsychos in its ranks. This is seen at least once in-game, in the mission called “Bullets,” whena cyberpsycho named Melissa Rory appears in MaxTac gear, still clearly violent and unhinged from her dialogue. This same character appeared in a 2013 trailer for the game when she went on a cyberpsychosis-fuelled killing spree.

Based on this and the over-the-top violence MaxTac employs, many fans speculatetheir ranks are full of “rehabilitated” cyberpsychos, allowed to exert their violent urges on criminals. And most of the time, as is the case in the quest “Bullets,” MaxTac takes no prisoners, executing the psychos they are sent to detain. That’s where the theory around Regina comes in.

V with Wakako Okada and Regina Jones

Players like RedditorInsanus_Vitae, below, have theorized she is hired by MaxTac to have her contacts non-lethally apprehend cyberpsychos. That way, the NCPD can collect them and put them into the MaxTac system.

There’s a good deal of evidence to support this theory. While none of the cyberpsychos V “saves” ever show up again in MaxTac uniform or anything, Regina is rather vague and secretive about where she is actually sending them. On top of that, nobody else in the game seems aware of or even mentionsa cure for cyberpsychosis. It’s also a little odd how quickly Regina learns about these psychos and where they are causing trouble, seemingly before the authorities in every situation.

Why Regina May Not Be Working For MaxTac

A Media With Integrity

This is a fun theory that would paint an otherwise upstanding character in a nasty light.Regina is usually one of the more moral fixers, who cares about preserving life when possible and used to work as a media exposing shady corporate activity. It seems on-brand forCyberpunkto have a character like this hiding some dark secret, but there are a few points that seem to go against this theory.

Nearly 200 New Gigs In Cyberpunk 2077 Will Help You Find The Game’s Biggest Secrets

Almost 200 new gigs have been added to Cyberpunk 2077, helping players find some of the game’s biggest secrets that they may otherwise miss.

For one, there is a cyberpsycho quest in which Regina decides against recusing a person because MaxTac is too close by. It seems suggested that, in this case, MaxTac recruits this psycho because she was unable to get him out in time. Back with Melissa Rory,it was MaxTac that managed to capture her, not some merc.

So it seems like MaxTac does do its own recruitment when it needs new people, and may not need someone like Regina. And to be fair abouthow much Regina knows, she is a media with tons of connections, whose job was once to know as much as possible. It makes sense she’d have her ear to the groundabout the things she cares about.

Regina Probably Isn’t Working For MaxTac

More Coincidence Than Conspiracy

In all likelihood,Regina is not working with MaxTac. It doesn’t seem to line up with how the NCPD branch operates or the genuine moments of characterization players get with Regina. She seems like someone who actually does want to help people, especially seeing how sherewards V on some other questsfor doing things non-violently. Plus, it’s already known Regina has some unfinished business with a Chinese corporation that she seems afraid of, which is more likely the dark part of her backstory she is hiding.

Still, this theory is somewhat plausible. It fits thematically with the game’s commentary on exploitation and with the things said about medias. And Max Jones, Regina’s old partner, seems to suspect her of something shady. Regina is definitely hiding something, and given how sketchy parts of the cyberpsycho quest feel, it could be something to do with that. And even putting Regina aside, the connection between MaxTac and cyberpsychos is disturbing in its own right. While we won’t know for sure until CD Projekt Red steps in to confirm to dent, it’s another fun lore theory forCyberpunk 2077.
