DC has recently unveiled thatBatmanis getting a new series, a new logo, a new costume, and a new writer: Matt Fraction ofHawkeyefame. Teaming up withBatmanartist Jorge Jiménez, Fraction is an all-star writer, having written for DC before withSuperman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen. He also worked with the priorBatmanwriter, Chip Zdarsky, on one of Image Comics' best romance series,Sex Criminals, which they created together.
While Matt Fraction has experience writing for DC, some of his most iconic superhero runs are from his time with Marvel Comics. He’s tackled heroes like the Invincible Iron Man, the Punisher, the Mighty Thor, and more. Perhaps his most beloved Marvel series to date isHawkeye(2012-2015) with artist David Aja.

Not only isHawkeyea phenomenal comic series, but Fraction’s work onHawkeyeshows that Fraction will kill it withBatmanwhen the new #1 arrives this fall, as these two heroes have a lot more in common than expected.
Hawkeye and Batman Have More in Common Than Meets the Eye
Hawkeye and Batman May Be Powerless, But That Doesn’t Stop Them
Both Hawkeye andBatmanare just humans. They don’t have powers, and they are both driven by a desire to protect their communities from danger. While powerless, they stand alongside some god-like heroes, and they prove time and again that they are just as valuable as someone who flies, shoots lasers, or has extreme strength. Of course, to go toe-to-toe with overpowered villains, they still need to adapt using their equipment.
Seeing how successful the writer was with one rich, street-level hero with no powers, Fraction’s time on theHawkeyetitle bodes well forBatman.

While Bruce Wayne’s mass amounts of money and access to high-end equipment may make him feel like a less relatable hero to some, that doesn’t have to be the case. Fraction’s take on Hawkeye is a version of the character with access to unrealistic equipment and a sizable amount of money. However,Clint Barton never feels like he is above the people he tries to protect. Fraction humanizes Barton well, embracing his flaws and emphasizing his moral code. Seeing how successful the writer was with one rich, street-level hero with no powers, Fraction’s time on theHawkeyetitle bodes well forBatman.
Furthermore, one of the standouts of the Fraction and AjaHawkeyerun is Kate Bishop. The dynamic between Bishop and Barton is perfect, as the creative team treats Kate as Clint’s equal. She’s a remarkable legacy character for Hawkeye, andlegacy is a massive part of Batman and his lore. Seeing how Fraction handles Hawkeye and Hawkeye, it makes one excited to see how he will handle Batman with Nightwing, Batgirl, Oracle, Robin, or any other members of the Bat-Family.
