Justice League Showed One Of The Greatest Weaknesses Of A Green Lantern Ring

In theJustice Leagueseries finale, “Starcrossed, Part III,” John Stewart battles the villainous Thanagarian Hro Talak. Stewart has the upper hand initially using his constructs to easily block strikes from Talak’s Nth Metal axe, butone blow slices his ring apart, rendering him powerless. Green Lantern rings may be one of the universe’s most powerful items, but the rings themselves are far less durable than the energy constructs they create. This weakness, notably, is consistent with the DC Comics source material.

How Justice League vs The Fatal Five Fixed This Green Lantern Issue

InJustice League vs. the Fatal Five, Jessica Cruz finds herself in a similar predicament to John Stewart. While battling the titular Fatal Five, Persuader strikes Cruz’s power ring with his Atomic Axe, slicing it to pieces and thus removing Cruz’s powers. Later on, however,Cruz recites the Green Lantern oath, causing the fragments of her ring to self-repair and return to her, proving that a Green Lantern can – with great effort – repair a destroyed power ring.

In the pilot episode ofJustice League Unlimited, John Stewart is shown using a functioning power ring. At the time, it would be reasonable to assume that he was simply given a new one by the Guardians of the Universe on Oa. Given whatJustice League vs. the Fatal Fiveshowed 15 years later,it is far more likely that Stewart repaired his ring following the events of the episode.
