Oran and Oba in episode 13

Produced By Production +h.; Directed By Tomoyuki Kurokawa

InDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #13,Futaba confessed to Oran that SHIP wanted her to be part of a violent protest during the opening of the new stadium, and she gave Oran her gun so she could have an excuse not to participate. While Oran agreed to help, she also told Futaba that this wouldn’t atone for her involvement with everything and that she needed to make a genuine change, but Futaba left the trip without any clear sign of what she would do.

The next day, Oba awoke to find Oran missing, and with how uncharacteristic that was of her, he told Makoto that he was afraid Oran had regained her memories. To help Makoto know what he was talking about, Oba used the memory device to show Makoto everything from the flashback arc, and the story finally continued from Kadode’s suicide. In the aftermath, Oran fell into a state of perpetual depression, but because he took pity on her,Isobeyan told Oran that she could use a time machine of sorts to send her consciousness into another timeline and save Kadode.

Oran crying as the invasion unfolds

Oran awoke in the timeline with no memory of her past life, but everything she went through still affected her on a subconscious level, and because of that, Oran adopted her eccentric personality to befriend Kadode earlier and keep the two of them away from the study trip; the change in events kept Kadode alive, but that meant they never got to meet Isobeyan and teach him about humanity, meaning thatOran was essentially responsible for the events of theDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionanime.

Back in the present, Oba and Makoto found Oran by the abandoned spaceship preparing to throw away Futaba’s gun in secret, and it didn’t take long for Oba to conclude that Oran still hadn’t regained her memories. Oba asked if Oran ever thought about leaving them, and when Oran said that she just wanted to stay with everyone, Oba, overwhelmed with joy, kissed her in front of everyone. It was a heartwarming moment to end the episode, and it was contrasted by a note saying thathumanity is going to end in five days.

With everything that happened inDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #13, there’s far more to Oran than her eccentric personality. Episode #13 finally confirmed that Oran used time travel to prevent Kadode’s suicide, even though it came at the expense of the rest of the world, meaning that, at least subconsciously,Oran’s eccentric personality is just a way of masking how terrible she feels over everything that happened to Kadode and the world, as a whole. That adds an incredible amount of depth to her character, and it will be great to see what else is done with it.

Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #13 was all about clearing up the discrepancy between the earlier flashback arc and the main story, and as much as it emphasized the tragic nature of the story,Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #13 was also the best episode for highlighting the incredible bond Kadode and Oran share, no matter the circumstances. It was another episode ofCrunchyroll’sDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructiongreat at highlighting the emotional depth of the writing, and it surely won’t be the last.
