TheDeadpool(2016) director will not give up on another long-delayed comic adaptation. At the time, Tim Miller was an unlikely choice for the superhero blockbuster, having only ever worked on shorts or as an assistant director on feature films. When he was surprisingly tapped to manageDeadpooland its $58 million budget, it was an opportunity to showcase his talent. Miller took advantage, using the comic adaptation to rocket to success.Deadpoolearned exceptional reviewsand brought in a gross of $782 million at the box office.
Due to creative differences, Tim Miller did not work onDeadpool 2orDeadpool & Wolverine.

Hollywood quickly took notice of Miller’s talents, quickly being tapped as a director forTerminator: Dark Fate(2019) and serving as an executive producer for thethree recentSonic the Hedgehogmovies. He also became a TV executive producer onSecret LevelandLove, Death & Robots. ForRobots, he was even a director and writer, and his work helped him earn three Primetime Emmy Awards. The Deadpool Director Wants To Work On The Goon
It Has Been In Limbo For Years
Screen Rant’s Brennan Klein was present at Collider’s Inside Hollywood panel with Robert Kirkman, Miller, and Dave Wilson at CCXP this weekend, where the renowned creators discussed various projects. Miller, in particular, offered insight into a comic book adaptation that hasroutinely been delayed for years:The Goon. The first inklings of an adaptation came in 2008, which eventually evolved into a successful $400,000 Kickstarter campaign in 2012. Miller became attached to the project in 2017, but it has since received few updates. The filmmaker, however, remained optimistic at the panel:
“I will never give up on the Goon movie… I will make it.”
Inspired by Eric Powell’s comic series about an anti-hero goon,The Goon’s adaptationwas initially stalled after Disney purchased 20th Century Fox, pausing many projects and canceling numerous others. The entire FoxX-Menuniverse had an untimely end, thoughDeadpool & Wolverine(2024) reintroduced many of its characters. With Disney slowly reintroducing Fox concepts, Miller still intends to develop the movie and fulfill the Kickstarter’s promise.
Our Take On The Upcoming Adaptation
It Should Have Already Been Here
The adaptation will be coming at an odd moment for the superhero genre. The movie had a trailer in 2010, shortly beforeThe Avengerswas released that same year. Nearlythe entire Marvel Cinematic Universehas developed between the movie’s initial trailer and today. Superhero movies are currently on the decline, as both Marvel and DC have seen massive failures in recent years. IfThe Goon had cometen years ago, it would have been timely. Yet, for all that Miller wants to see the movie come to life, it may be too late.
