Summary

Deadpool & Wolverinehas a great reference to Ben Affleck’sDaredevil, but it missed an opportunity to make an even better one. Affleck’s Matt Murdock was a possible cameo that manyMarvelaudiences thought could have been inDeadpool 3. While he isn’t in the film, Jennifer Garner’s Elektra does have a prominent role. Garner first played the role alongside Affleck in 2003’sDaredevil, where the two showcased their romantic chemistry amid a hilarious fight in a playground.Deadpool & Wolverinealso references their real-life divorcewhen Elektra indifferently reacts to Daredevil’s death.

The trained-assassin also had her own movie in 2005, but that was a disastrous flop with critics and at the box office. It was great to see Garner’s Elektra get redemption while honoring the messyDaredevilandElektrafilms of the early 2000s. However,Deadpool & Wolverinemissed a chance to make another reference to these films with its Happy Hogan cameo. Jon Favreau has a surprising connection to the Fox universe that many audiences don’t remember, and the film had a golden opportunity to joke about it.

Deadpool & Wolverine: 100 Marvel Easter Eggs & References Explained

Deadpool & Wolverine quite literally has over 100 different Easter eggs, references, and cameos galore. Here are all the ones we found.

Jon Favreau Played Foggy Nelson In Ben Affleck’s Daredevil Movie

Favreau’s Marvel journey started five years before 2008’sIron Manwhen he starred in Daredevil as Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, Matt’s best friend and legal partner. Foggy doesn’t have a major role in the film, buthe does provide much of the film’s comedy and heart, showcasing what he would bring to the MCU as Happy Hogan. In the MCU, Foggy will be portrayed by Elden Henson, who is reprising the role from the Netflix series.

While most audiences don’t remember that Favreau was inDaredevil,Deadpool & Wolverinemissed a great opportunity to reference his Fox role. During their meeting, Deadpool could have said he looked familiar or asked if he was Tony Stark’s attorney rather than the head of his security.Chris Evans' Johnny Storm appearancewas a crossover moment between the MCU and the Fox universe, andFavreau’s cameo could have been a similar bridge between the two worlds.

Happy Hogan’s Position As A Recruiter For The Avengers Is Symbolic Of Favreau’s MCU Role

Happy Hogan’s cameo inDeadpool & Wolverineis largely comedic. Deadpool clearly wanted to speak to Tony Stark and even made some belittling comments about Hogan’s role with the Avengers. However, Favreau’s appearance is more symbolic than just a funny sequence.Favreau directed the firstIron Man, and the film’s success was critical for the MCU’s beginnings. While Kevin Feige is the father of the MCU,he relied on creative talent to bring it to life and Favreau was the right guy for the job.

Favreau interviewing Deadpool to join the Avengers seems like the right call since he was a part of the MCU’s start and Hogan knows what it takes to be a hero. He worked for Tony Stark for many years and saw Tony go from a selfish billionaire playboy to a brave hero who sacrificed himself to save the world. Favreau started that character arc with the firstIron Man, and it’s interesting to see him evaluate Deadpool. His role shows that the team behindDeadpool & Wolverinewanted cameos that had meaning and served a purpose.
