How To Start The “To The Edge Of The Abyss” Quest
Collect The Right Item And Complete Other Missions
Before you can start"To the Edge of the Abyss,“youneed to collect at least oneInfernal CompassinDiablo 4from an earlier mission. The Abyss quest is the third and final seasonal mission thatonly unlocks when you have finished all the prior questsbefore it. One such quest, named"The Eyes of the Enemy,“has your character find a Compass item capable of transporting you and your allies to hell itself.
You alsocan’t start the quest without being on World Tier 3, a higher difficulty setting for your character. Only those who have beaten the first Capstone Dungeon, the Cathedral of Light, can start a new game at World Tier 3 inDiablo 4. Once you’ve progressed through the right seasonal quests,“To the Edge of the Abyss"starts when you speak to Locran at Caldeum Imperial Palaceand gain your first objective.
Some players have reported bugs where Locran does not appear in the Imperial Palace at all. To fix this issue, try either closing your game and reopening it, traveling in and out of a nearby dungeon, or switching between different World Tiers.

Protect Locran Through The Plains Of Hell
The quest begins with your character traveling down the Hallowed Descent toreach the Gate of Hellpast the enemies in the area. From here, youneed to have a Demonic Heartto open the way forward to the first section of Hell, the Desolation Fields. This type of location should be familiar to those who have completedHellbreach events inDiablo 4, which acted as introductions to the Infernal Hordes mode.
Going into the Desolation Fields will have you follow Locran and protect him until you reach the Abyssal Verge andfind the Well of Hatred. Locran will then ask you to place a Talisman on the Well andprotect him from enemy waves as he conducts a ritual. During this ritual, you will have to overcome multiple waves of difficult enemies, including several Elite creatures with different modifiers to make things difficult.
The many Elite foes you face will dropMother’s Gift items inDiablo 4, which can be collected to reach Season 5 reward tiers for rare loot like several of the new Unique items added to the game.
As the ritual continues, you need tofind the Opening of Darknessafter the initial waves once Locran has been protected enough. At this point, you will have to face off against your first Infernal Horde, which includes more waves of strong minions and Elite enemies ready to tear your character apart. Defeating everyone will allow you toplace Locran’s Talisman into the Well of Hatredas a new objective.
Doing this will cause Locran to commune with the Fell Council, a group of bosses who govern Hell’s armies against you. The last step of this quest is todefeat the Fell Council leadersalong with their subjects to eradicate their incursion on Sanctuary once and for all. This step is easier said than done, as both enemies are extremely dangerous and can wipe you out quickly if you aren’t prepared to face them.

How To Defeat The Fell Council Leaders
Know The Patterns Of Two Separate Bosses
Infernal Hordes have the chance to throw two of five possible bosses, but"To the Edge of the Abyss"always hasyou face Geleb the Flame, Bremm the Maelstrom, and Maffer the Cruel. This should give you a good idea about what level your character needs to be to stand the best chance against any foe.
The Fell Council members are fought through three different phases that take place one after the other. The first has you fighting one of the bosses, while the second has you fighting two at the same time. The final phase of the fight involves taking on a revived member of the Council one more time to finally overcome the might of the Infernal Hordes.
Another wave of hellspawn minions will appear in between the first and second phases of this boss fight, so use these enemies to farm Health Potions for later.
The order of bosses you face is shuffled, so you have to be ready to face anyone during each of the waves. Don’t forget todefeat minions who drop Health Potionsoften, so you have enough healing items to survive the onslaught of multiple bosses in a row.
