Summary

Every newDisney Lorcanaset widens the array of opportunities to build a good deck, andShimmering Skiesis no exception. With almost a year having passed since the collectible trading card game first hit the market, the strategy behind deck-building has gotten significantly more complex, and some of the earlier cards have gained or lost relevance thanks to how the overall scene has shifted.

As always, it’s difficult to predict whichcards inShimmering Skieswill prove the most competitive in the long run, but some are clearly impressive options from the start. As long as they’re placed in decks that suit them, the bestShimmering Skiescards can all be the key factor in winning games, and some of them aren’t even particularly rare or difficult to acquire.

10 Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies Cards Worth The Most Money

Shimmering Skies adds plenty of new valuable cards to Disney Lorcana, and some of the Enchanted options are commanding incredibly high prices.

10Gaston - Pure Paragon

119/204, Ruby

Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skiesdoesn’t necessarily feel like Ruby’s time to shine on the whole, but Gaston - Pure Paragon is a fantastic addition to the right deck. As an uninkable card with a cost of nine, there’s an inherent risk in keeping this in-hand, but any deck that’s designed to take a beating can quickly increase its viability. The cost is reduced by two lore for every damaged character in play, which can quickly turn Gaston into a great deal.

If Gaston - Pure Paragon does make it out onto the board, he’s certainly battle-ready, with ten strength, six willpower, and the Rush ability. Questing isn’t his forte, but two lore still isn’t shabby. Aggressive attack cards like Hercules - Daring Demigod and Maui - Hero to All are staples in some Ruby decks, and the new Gaston is a natural addition to that lineup.

9Merlin - Intellectual Visionary

159/204, Sapphire

If Merlin - Intellectual Visionary’s Shift ability was just a touch more aggressive, it could be a true power player, but it’s still a significant card as is. When using the Shift 5 ability, which allows the six-cost card to be played one turn early if a cheaper Merlin can be commandeered for the cause, Merlin gets to make use of another feature called Overdeveloped Brain. This ability allows the player to search their deck for any card and take it into their hand before shuffling the deck, offering a significant boost to control.

Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies Starter Decks Review

Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies' two new Starter Decks, Amethyst and Ruby, and Emerald and Steel, come with all the cards needed to begin playing.

This isn’t the firstDisney Lorcanaability to center around searching the deck, but it’s the only one so far to offer such a thorough version, making it a card that everyone should keep their eyes on. Its uninkable status is a bit of a downer, but seven willpower and two lore for questing are respectable advantages.

8Cogsworth - Illuminary Watchman

37/204, Amethyst

Cogsworth - Illuminary Watchmen isn’t the first card focused around Rush support inDisney Lorcana’s Amethyst lineup, but it does implement the concept in a new way. Rather than using an action or an item as a cheap supplement to apply Rush to a powerful character, a player can use Cogsworth and still get an extra character card on the board in the process.

The best thing about Cogsworth - Illuminary Watchmen is that it’s easy to incorporate him into a deck without severe consequences, as he ends up being a cheap card to throw out or functional inkwell fodder in the worst scenarios. In the best scenarios, he can synergize well with other Amethyst cards to boost theaggressive power of a deckin a game that requires that level of speed.

7Clarabelle - Light On Her Hooves

84/204, Emerald

The overall roster of Emerald cards inDisney Lorcana: Shimmering Skiesmight not be as exciting as some other inks, but it’s got a handful of impressively strong options, and the best of the bunch may very well be Clarabelle - Light on Her Hooves. At a cost of seven ink, she isn’t cheap to deploy, but combining her Shift 5 ability with cheap cards like Clarabelle - Clumsy Guest can make things happen a lot faster.

Clarabelle’s five strength, six willpower, and two lore all get the job done, but the Keep in Step ability is the main draw. At the end of the player’s turn,Clarabelle allows them to draw cards up to bring their hand up to the same size as a chosen opponent’s. It’s not a natural fit for many meta decks at the moment, but it’s a powerful opportunity for card draw that’s hard to ignore.

6Madam Mim - Elephant

44/204, Amethyst

More than anything else, Madam Mim - Elephant is simply difficult to deal with. At a cost of only four ink, it’s easy to get Madam Mim onto the board fairly early in the game. As a trade-off, she requires another of the player’s characters to be returned to their hand to avoid immediate self-banishment, but it’s a price that’s well-worth playing.

Disney Lorcana co-designers Ryan Miller and Steve Warner share their fondest memories and biggest challenges, tease Pixar cards, and explain Bucky.

Madam Mim’s seven willpower makes her fairly tanky by default, but Sneaky Move cranks up that survivability and throws some offense into the mix.At the start of the player’s turn, they can move up to two damage counters from Madam Mim to a chosen opposing character, making it easy to deal with chip damage and turn it back on the enemy. A respectable three strength solidifies the equation, and even if she only generates one lore per quest, it’s hard to complain about a card this strong.

5Hide Away

163/204, Sapphire

Hide Away is a fairly self-explanatory card, and it doesn’t take too much thinking to realize how useful it can be. At a cost of only two lore, this action can remove a chosen item or location from the board and place it into an inkwell facedown and exerted. Contributing to an opponent’s inkwell is never the best feeling, but when it gets something particularly troublesome out of the way, it’s undeniably worth it.

Even though they don’t have any attack power of their own, items and locations can be hard to deal with. Being able to remove the notoriously annoying location The Queen’s Castle, for example, could easily justify Hide Away on its own. Kuzco - Selfish Emperor is another goodShimmering Skiesoption with this ability, but Hide Away’s cheap cost makes it easier to deploy.

4Pete - Games Referee

195/204, Steel

Pete - Games Referee isn’t a card that’s going to win a game on its own, but it could certainly stand in the way of losing. In terms of basic stats, Pete is generally unremarkable. Three strength, three willpower, and one lore for questing are all nothing to write home about for a cost of 3 ink, and there are definitely more exciting alternatives to deploy.

When playing against a deck built around aggressive action cards, however,Pete - Games Referee can be a powerful bulwark. Blow the Whistle allows him to shut down opponent actions until the start of the player’s next turn, potentially neutralizing powerful songs and more. The ability to ink the card makes it hard for it to ever become dead weight, making it a strong option to include in any Steel deck.

3Prince Naveen - Ukulele Player

3/204, Amber

Making good use out of Prince Naveen - Ukulele Player definitely requires building the right deck, as there isn’t much point in having him around ifpowerfulDisney Lorcanasongsaren’t on hand. With the right deck, however, he could be absolutely devastating.

Disney Lorcana: The World’s Rarest Card, Upcoming Characters & New Events - Everything Revealed At D23

Attending D23 2024, Screen Rant breaks down every major announcement from the Disney Lorcana panel, celebrating the next two years of the TCG.

Like some other strong Amber cards inDisney Lorcana, Prince Naveen - Ukulele Player features the Singer ability, allowing him to sing cards above his level (in this case, jumping from a cost of 4 ink to qualifying as 6 for singing purposes). On its own, that wouldn’t be especially remarkable, but playing Naveen also allows a song that costs six ink or less to be played for free.Deploying Prince Naveen in a perfectly optimized sequence could easily ruin an opponent’s day, and even using slightly cheaper songs alongside it could still be worthwhile.

2Mufasa - Ruler Of Pride Rock

150/204, Sapphire

Relying on cards that cost eight ink can be tricky inDisney Lorcana, as there’s a chance they’ll never have much of a chance to enter play. Sapphire does offer some powerful options to build up inkwells quickly, however, and if Mufasa - Ruler of Pride Rock is waiting in the wings, playing the long gambit could well be worth it.

Playing Mufasa - Ruler of Pride Rock requires the inkwell to be completely exerted even if it has more than eight cards in it, and two have to be chosen at random to return to the player’s hand. Once the card is out on the table, though, it can be an absolute beast.Nine willpower, four lore, and the ability to ready every card in the inkwell every time that Mufasa quests make for an exceptional powerful array of stats and abilities.

1Daisy Duck - Donald’s Date

16/204, Amber

Surprisingly, what’s arguably the most impressive card inDisney Lorcana: Shimmering Skiesis one that can be deployed for a cost of only one ink. While a lot of cards this cheap are mostly intended as little more than early-game fodder, Daisy Duck - Donald’s Date packs in four willpower and two lore. In an Amber-focused deck where overwhelming the enemy with cards is a priority, this one is annoying to deal with in a way that other one-drop cards just can’t claim.

This power comes at a price, naturally, and the Big Prize ability rewards the opponent with the potential to add a card to their hand every time that Daisy Duck - Donald’s Duck quests. With enough aggression and luck, however, getting some copies of Daisy on the board can snowball things quickly enough that this side effect doesn’t matter, making it a powerful newShimmering Skiesaddition toDisney Lorcana.
