Summary

Star Wars Outlawssees Kay Vess embark upon a new adventure that takes her across multiple planets, dealing with some of the galaxy’s most notorious crime syndicates. As its story covers an element not too common in gaming by following a scoundrel, many will likely wonder as the game draws to a close whether it will include some kind of New Game Plus feature or if they’ll have to start over to experience Kay’s story once again.

New Game Plus has become a common addition to narrative-driven titles, offering a way for players to revisit the game’s story after completing it while carrying over their previously acquired items or upgrades without having to restart the game from scratch.

New Game Plus has been a feature in past Ubisoft titles, such asAssassin’s Creed OdysseyorAssassin’s Creed Mirage. However, other titles, such asAssassin’s Creed Valhallaand Massive Entertainment’s previous title,Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, didn’t have such an option.

Star Wars Outlaws Review: Dazzling Hives Of Scum & Villainy

Star Wars Outlaws focuses on a grimier, seedier side of the universe with a rich, detailed open world that features both new and legacy characters.

Star Wars Outlaws Doesn’t Have New Game Plus At Launch

But Players Are Able To Explore The Open-World

Unfortunately,Star Wars Outlawstakes after Massive Entertainment’s previous game and doesn’t have New Game Plus or even a Mission Select function. Therefore, those who want to experience Kay Vess' story again will have to start from scratch in a completely new game, reacquiring every upgrade, cosmetic, and tool all over again.

While it could be argued that this progression is a part of Kay’s story as shebuilds her reputation with the criminal underworld, it would have been fun to have some of her more powerful blaster options or her full array of tools from the start of a second playthrough. There is still the option to explore the open world further after the credits roll, however, and complete any side missions that had been left untouched upon entering the Point of No Return, meaning nothing is missable in the game.

Being able to reenter the open world in this way also lets players experiment with building allegiances or betraying different syndicates, as there always seems to be a flow of contracts available via each planet’s brokers, and unlike certain points in the main campaign, Kay’s freedom to explore is no longer limited, offering a full open world experience more like that which many likely expected when they first picked up the game.

Therefore, while it’s a shame there’s no New Game Plus mode, there is still plenty to see and do once Kay’s campaign is over. While Massive Entertainment has yet to add New Game Plus toAvatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Ubisoft games such asAssassin’s Creed Miragehave had this feature added in later patches, so depending on how it could be implemented and whether or not it would be deemed as “game breaking” to have a fully equipped Kay Vess from the offset, there’s always a possibility it may get discussed more down the line.
