In addition, Emperor Javicco (Mark Strong) can be seen sleeping with Sister Francesca (Tabu), who is seemingly starting to influence him more than Desmond or Natalya (Jodhi May). Keiran (Chris Mason) is also seen being beaten and questioned by soldiers, unwilling to give anything up, while he’s also briefly seen fighting soldiers alongside Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina). Tula is also shown in a panic, while one of the Sisters is seemingly burned by Desmond. The ending showsa young Valya in an ice storm before Shai-Hulud loomsabove Arrakis' surface. Valya’s plans to restore the Sisterhood to the Emperor’s side were going smoothly in episode 5, but the trailer for the season finale signals a core betrayal is going to hurt their chances of being trusted once again. While Denis Villeneuve’s movies signal thecast ofDune: Prophecywill be successful in gaining his ear once more, it appears major challenges are still in store for them. It also signals their lowest point is arriving, with Sisters having to flee their school because of moves being made by Desmond, potentially without his lordship’s knowledge.

These dreams could be connected to how he got his power, potentially even offering a way to stop him so the Sisters can restore their influence over humanity’s leader. WithDune: Prophecy’s storycoming to a head, it only makes sense for the fight to be resolved with one last confrontation.

Will The Show Itself Come To A Close?

With so many moving parts in the season finale, it’s unclear ifDune: Prophecyseason 2will be necessary to continue the story. It’s very possible the final confrontation between Valya and Desmond happens at the Sisterhood School, setting the stage for the franchise’s inevitable future, and the rise of the Bene Gesserit. However, since the group of Truthsayers aren’t yet called their name 10,000 years from now, there could still be more story left to tell following whatever happens in the forthcoming finale.

The final episode ofDune: Prophecyseason 1, “The High-Handed Enemy,” arrives Sunday, December 22 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and Max.
