Summary

WhileBaldur’s Gate 3allows players to live out their fantasies of becoming heroes and saving the world, its greatest strength is that doing so is a choice. As nice as it is to be a good guy, it can also be tons of fun to be villainous and do a truly wicked playthrough ofBG3. And new endings arriving in September will make any evil adventure pack even more of a punch alongside new cutscenes and content.

Currently, the only downside to aBaldur’s Gate 3evil playthroughis the lack of a satisfying epilogue. When taking control of the Netherbrain, the character will sit on their throne, but then the game ends, and there is no party with Withers or follow-up, which has left many feeling disappointed.BG3’s Patch 7isn’t coming until September, but recent leaks have offered a great look at what people can expect, and it’s clearLarian Studios have not held back with these wonderfully dark and creepy endings.

85% Of Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Are Still Avoiding This Character, And I Know Why

A surprisingly low number of players are opting for this Baldur’s Gate 3 Origin character and it could all be down to a misunderstanding.

8Conquest - Custom Character Or Non Dark Urge Origin

Build An Army To Conquest All

The first ending comes with the option:“This is just the beginning. More worlds shall fall to you.“The plan with this choice is simple, which is to take over Faerûn and beyond entirely. First, the character will need to establish an empire before they move onto other worlds, then other realms, and to amass enough power that not even the gods can challenge the new Absolute. This is the Grand Design, in a way, powered by illithids but not wholly under their control, as a new god rises to power.

As the cutscene unfolds, the cowering residents of Baldur’s Gate are brought under the character’s control, and their fear melts away from their faces. One by one, they begin to arm themselves, pulling weapons from the bodies of the brave souls who fell as they fought against the Absolute. Soon, all of them are standing in formation, wearing the uniforms of the Absolute cult with no emotion on their faces, beforethe pawns march off to be sacrificed.

7Thralls - Custom Character Or Non Dark Urge Origin

Living In An Imaginary World As Slaves

The next choice is:“The city shall become a monument to your glory. Rebuilt by your adoring subjects.“This option isfar more insidious than any of the others, as it toys with the newly conquered peopleunder the guise of kindness. It feels like a callback to the Act 1 moment where the injured mind flayer is found on the beach and can cause thedeath of the partyby making them love it. With this ending, the new Absolute is ‘loved’, but it is hollow and cruel.

The cowering civilians are once again brought under the character’s control and at first seem to be in pain. But then an idyllic scene unfolds of people shopping happily and children playing with smiles on their faces, but it is all a lie. The scene cuts again to the reality of the character’s choice ashordes of mindless thralls haul bricks to build a towering statue in their honor. They all trudge along with smiles on their faces, no doubt to be worked to death while their minds live in an imaginary world.

The giant statue will depict the player character, similar to the one available to purchase from Stoney and Boney at Circus of the Last Days in Act 3.

6Death - Custom Character Or Non Dark Urge Origin

Perhaps Death Is Mercy In This Situation

The endings get significantly dark from this point, as the next choice for evil players is:“There can be no future for such sheep. Will them all to die.“This option is cruel and strange as the character again toys with the kneeling people by at first pretending to be gentle. As the player character gently caresses their own face, the controlled people do the same as they smile. However, things rapidly take a sinister turn asbands of energy appear around the neck of everyone in the crowd.

It is obvious from the panic on their faces that these rings are getting tighter, cutting off vital air, and causing people to crawl at their necks in desperation. Then, suddenly, the player character closes their fist, andone by one each person’s neck is snapped, including the mind flayers. The cutscene closes with the character lying down with a peaceful smile on their face amidst the bodies of civilians, illithids, and companions as the nautiloids fall from the sky.

5Chaos - Custom Character Or Non Dark Urge Origin

Some People Just Want To Watch The World Burn

The next ending focuses on chaos with the option:“You do not wish to rule. You wish for the fires of chaos to consume all.“This choice is all about madness and mayhem as the player character lets loose a wave of chaotic energy. At first, all seems well, but then the eyes of some crowd members glow red, and the new Absolute’s reign of terror begins. These ‘infected’ people start to attack others, brutally murdering them and causing others to flee in panic.

But it’s no use, as thechaos infection spreads and more and more people start to turn on those around them. The player character walks through the streets of Baldur’s Gate, watching with a smile as residents slaughter everyone in sight. Not even children are spared in this massacre, as they, too, fall to the chaos and turn on their protectors. Perhaps the worst aspect of this ending is the suggestion that the chaos will eventually fade, leaving those who survive to live with the things they did and saw.

4The Grand Design - Custom Character Or Non Dark Urge Origin

Ceremorphosis Takes Over

Before any choices can be made and any of the other endings can play out, the player character will first need to make a saving throw, as ceremorphosis triggers. It is unclear at this time how many illithid tadpoles will be needed to trigger this option, or if it is caused simply by using the basicillithid powersgranted by the character’s original hitchhiker. A DC 25 Constitution saving throw must be passed to continue to any of the four choices mentioned above. However, if the save is failed, thenthe character succumbs to ceremorphosis.

There is also the option to willingly transform with the option:“Your choices brought you here. Accept your fate and succumb to ceremorphosis.“This scene plays out very much like the conquest option, with a slight change. Instead of the gathered people grabbing weapons and getting into formation, tubs of tadpoles are placed in front of them.People reach in to claim their parasite as those around them quickly transforminto a new mind flayer army ready to conquer everything.

3Kill Companions & Love Interest - Dark Urge Origin

Command Former Friends To Their Doom

ADark Urge Origin playthroughgets its own set of endings which can differ slightly depending on choices made surrounding companions and love interests. One option is:“You do not want to see what is to come. Death is my reward for your service.“Here the Dark Urge takes control of their companions andforces them to leap to their deaths from atop the Netherbrain. Although they are compelled to move, it seems clear they are fully aware of their surroundings, which makes this death for them particularly cruel.

There is another option for if the Dark Urge’s love interest is present with:“Kill with one last kiss.“It is unclear at this time if this is only for specific love interests such as Minthara, who will actively encourage a Dark Urge to claim the Absolute in Bhaal’s name. In this scene, the Dark Urge kisses their beloved before pulling a knifeand stabbing them. After that, the two remaining companions will be forced to throw themselves off the Netherbrain as before.

2Tell Companions To Flee - Dark Urge Origin

Their Escape May Only Be Temporary

There is a variation of this scene with the option:“Run from me when we land. We will meet again at the end of days, when I shall come for you.“As the Dark Urge floats down from their throne atop the Netherbrain, their companions are teleported down to the ground. They seem fully in control of their minds and horrified at the situation.Just as instructed, they will run, perhaps to regroup with the others who were left in camp.

This small scene may seem like a mercy to the friends of the Dark Urge, but all it is doing is delaying the inevitable. As the final entry will explain, as the companions flee they may feel terror, but potentially hope as well. They may still believe on some level they can stop this madness, and maybe even reach the person they once knew and traveled with. But the truth is they are being played with, and no matter how hard they fight or how far they run, the Dark Urge and Bhaal are unstoppable.

1In Bhaal’s Name - Dark Urge Origin

It’s Time To End The World

The final evil ending for the Dark Urge is everything that they and Bhaal have been working towards. As the Dark Urge drifts down to the city the people at first are still prepared to fight. However, that soon stops asblades suddenly rip through their chests, in a similar way to Bhaal killing Sceleritas Fel in theTemple of Bhaalafter the fight with Orin. As the Dark Urge strolls through the carnage, Bhaal gives them a vision of the future they are about to create.

In the vision, there is nothing left, with a blood-stained void stretching out in all directions. Everyone is dead, andthe Dark Urge is described as the last living creaturewho stands among piles of corpses, bones, and entrails. This horrificBaldur’s Gate 3ending closes with the Dark Urge, knowing that only after they end the world and snuff out all life will their Father be proud of them.
