Samantha Brown Was Hooked On From Since The First Episode

“If I don’t get it, I’m going to be devastated. It raised the stakes for me that I became a huge, huge fan.”

Screen Rant: Were you a fan before you joined the cast?

Samantha Brown: I have a list on my phone of all the shows that I’m going to watch next. Everyone in my family was like, you have to watch From, you have to watch From. So I bumped it up to the top of that list. Then in between my initial audition and the callback, I was like, okay, I’ve got to watch at least one episode just to see what’s going on. And when I watched the first episode, I was like, this was such a mistake because I am now so hooked on this show that if I don’t get it, I was mad that I watched it. It was like, if I don’t get it, I’m going to be devastated. So it raised the stakes for me that I became a huge, huge fan.

I was telling someone this recently. You go from sitting on your couch in your pajamas, snacking on your snacks, watching the show to two weeks later, you feel like you were transported inside your television. Like these people were just in my living room, and now I’m with them. It was surreal.

Screen Rant: Do you remember your first day on set?

Boyd (Harold Perrineau) stands in front of the diner in From

Samantha Brown: My first day was the beginning of the big action sequence in episode four. Where Acosta pulls her gun and the EMTs throats are slashed - - that was my very first day. It was a night shoot. It was my first time meeting the crew. It was like 3am Halifax winter. First time putting on the uniform. I was like, I just do not want to get fired today. There was so much was going on, but it was good to start on that because I was like, okay, it’s going to be easy, smooth sailing from here, because the stakes of that scene were quite high.

The From Creatures Aren’t Just The Brainless Zombies We Thought They Were

“These creatures are planning and strategizing and talking to each other and targeting individuals and timing things out.”

Screen Rant: What do you think is so terrifying about the creatures of this town?

Samantha Brown: I think what’s even more terrifying about them this season is the fact that now we’re learning that they’re strategic, right? So it’s like season one, I think a lot of the audience thought, okay, these are just these brainless zombies that are just slashing whoever’s throat is right in front of them with no rhyme or reason.

From: The Boy in White outside the window

But now we’re starting to see that, no, these creatures are planning and strategizing and talking to each other and targeting individuals and timing things out. So, to me, it made your competitor stronger and sharper. And that is more terrifying than anything for me.

Screen Rant: What was your reaction when you first saw one of the actors in full prosthetics?

Acosta talking to Boyd in From season 3, episode 5

Samantha Brown: I didn’t know if I was going to be acting in front of a green screen. I didn’t know if it was going to be a tennis ball and all CGI. And so when I got there my first day, and you actually see that there are actors fully decked out in prosthetics to the level of detail, like what you see in the show is what we see as the actors filming it. The transition from human form to the creature form, that transition is CGI, but everything else is real.

You really appreciate that as an actor, because there’s very little you have to imagine. When I was being chased, Acosta is being chased by these creatures in the woods, Samantha is being chased. It’s like reality television for me, but you appreciate that prosthetics team, the head of it, his name’s Patrick Baxter, and he is so talented. You really appreciate that as an actor because there’s so many different elements you have to think of. I’m like, okay, I don’t have to worry about acting, just reacting.

Samantha Brown Says Working Opposite Harold Perrineau Was A “Masterclass In Acting”

“He’s a team player. He’s always there with every single teammate until the end.”

Screen Rant: Is there something you were most excited to explore this season?

Samantha Brown: I would say working with Harold Perrineau. I didn’t know how my character would fit into the show. I didn’t know what way they would take her. But seeing her relationships start to evolve, whether it’s for the good or bad with Boyd, that’s been really exciting for me because he’s just a legend. I was a big fan of Lost. So anytime I got to work with him one-on-one, it was just a masterclass in acting.

Screen Rant: What do you think you’ve learned from him?

Samantha Brown: He never does the same thing twice. Every take is different. Also, for him, you really see, he’s a team player. It’s not just, he’s doing the best on his own coverage. When it’s your coverage, and he’s off camera, he is giving a hundred percent for everyone else, which is really helpful because sometimes you’ll be acting with someone, and they’re giving it their all on their coverage, and then when it’s yours, they’re still there for you, but you can kind of tell that they’re phoning it in a bit. But never. He’s always there with every single teammate until the end.

As A Fan, Samantha Brown Has A Lot Of Questions She Wants Answers To

Screen Rant: As a fan, what storyline were you most excited to see play out in front of you?

Samantha Brown: Well, one hasn’t yet, but I want to know where the electricity comes from. I want to know if the boy in white is good or bad. And I think the pregnancy story line has been really interesting to see. Now we’ve seen the reveal with the ultrasound of what that means. That story line all season was a main thread that I really wanted to see how that was going to end. And you will see that.

Screen Rant: Pegah Ghafoori mentioned that scene was rewritten.

Samantha Brown: I actually think not only did it get rewritten, but I think they reshot it. I think they shot the entire scene, and then they went back and reshot it. Don’t quote me on that, but I think that’s what happened.

Working on the show, everything is for a reason. Every prop, every color, everything that you see visually in the show is there for a purpose. They’re never just phoning in, they’re rewatching and if they’re like, no, we can make this better, they redo it.

Samantha Brown Thinks The Answer To From’s Mysteries Is In The Town

“I view myself as having a master notebook. A legend of every single person that’s there.”

Screen Rant: If you were stuck in this town, how would you react?

Samantha Brown: I am much like my character. I’m very type A. I want to be in the mix. I want to be figuring things out. So I would definitely be consistently investigating what’s going on. I think I view myself as having a master notebook. A legend of every single person that’s there, their birthday, when they got there, their sin number, their horoscope, like everything about them, and just keeping an encyclopedia, basically. I’d be the town historian.

Because I think, someone was asking me this the other day, if you got out like Tabitha, what would you do? And I thought about it and I thought I would immediately go try to get back because I don’t think anyone in the real world can help the people in the town. I think the answer is in the town. So I would be the town researcher.
