InFuturamaseason 12, episode 10, Fry, Leela, and a few other characters head back to the ship graveyard, where something strange begins to happen. Their ship is attacked by an invisible ghost ship, with them being hit and slowly falling into the multiversal waters before. Due to thier imminent deaths, Fry and Leela finally decide to get married before they perish, withZapp Brannigan’s role as the ship’s captaingiving him the authority to marry the duo. So, after 25 years ofFuturama, we finally got to see Fry and Leela get married.

Casting Futurama In Live-Action: 12 Actors Who Should Play The Main Characters

Now that Futurama’s season 11 revival has proven a hit, the show is perfectly prepared for a live-action adaptation featuring an all-new cast.

However,Futuramaseason 12’s finale pulls the rug out from under viewersat the end of the episode, revealing that the Fry and Leela that got married aren’t actuallyFuturama’s main Fry and Leela. Instead, they are multiversal counterparts of our main characters, with the real Fry and Leela being in the wreckage of the previous Planet Express ship. Due to the effects of the mutliversal sea, Fry begins having flashbacks to the previousFuturamaseries finale, “Meanwhile.“This episode saw Fry and Leela become stuck in time and grow old together, although Hulu’sFuturamaseason 11 premiere undid “Meanwhile’s” ending. Fry and Leela have no memories of their previous relationship, but now that he is starting to have flashbacks, this could change.

After 12 Seasons, Futurama Must Finally Reverse Its Biggest Planet Express Story Problem Before It’s Too Late

Futurama’s approach to death has become increasingly cavalier, which could have an impact on the stakes in future storylines.

On top of that,teasing Fry and Leela’s marriage would be weird ifFuturamadidn’t have plans for it in the future. Many fans were excited to see Fry and Leela finally get married in “Otherwise,” and revealing that it didn’t actually happen could be disappointing for some. So, ifFuturamaseason 13 does happen, the series could go all-in on seeing its two protagonists get married.
