Peacock’s upcoming espionage series isset in Moscow in 1977 and follows two PONIES(an acronym for “persons of no interest” in intelligence slang) who work anonymously as secretaries in the American Embassy. When their husbands are killed under suspicious circumstances in the USSR, the two become CIA operatives.Clarke will play Bea, a highly educated Russian-speaking daughter of Soviet immigrants, who teams up with Twila, a fearless and blunt small-town girl. Together, they work to uncover a comprehensive Cold War conspiracy and the truth behind the events that turned them into widows.
Peacock’sPoniesis co-created by Susanna Fogel, known previously forThe Flight AttendantandThe Spy Who Dumped Me, and David Iserson. Fogel is set to direct the series, while Iserson will take on the role of showrunner. In addition to starring, Clarke will also serve as an executive producer. Additional executive producers include Jessica Rhoades, Alison Mo Massey, and Katherine Bridle.
