How Powerful Is DC Comics' Newest Blue Lantern, Mrs. Claus?

More Than the Comic May Suggest

On paper, it may be hard for some readers to see what the hype around Mrs. Claus being a Blue Lantern is all about. In fact, some may come out of this story wondering what the point of showcasing Mrs. Claus with a Blue Power Ring would be if she hardly does anything with the ring. It’s not all for naught, though, asthere’s a lot of potential for the future- if Mrs. Claus returns to the DC Universe.

Given Santa’s DC track recordas Batman’s trainer, this won’t be the last time that the DC Universe will see Carol. That’s a good thing, too, becausethe story offers small hints that Mrs. Claus is capable of so much more than she shows off in this comic. For starters, before confronting Toyman, Carol utters that she holds"the power of hope.“She could just be referring to the power of the Blue Lantern ring, which ispowered by the Blue Light of Hope. That in mind, it could also tie in deeper with Christmas than anything else.

Robin may be Batman’s sidekick, but when the Justice League crosses paths with a powerful villain, the Boy Wonder teams up with a holiday legend.

Carol, instead, could be referring to the hope of every person who still believes in the Christmas spirit. It could even be a little bit of both, and in either case, that level of hope holds a lot of power for whoever wields it. Mrs. Claus, by extension of her husband, holds the power of Christmas in her hands, with or without the Blue Lantern ring, and that has to count for something. That kind of power, on top of holding a ring, is more power than anyGreen Lanternhas ever held for themselves.
