Heartstopper’s season 4 future is clarified by creator Alice Oseman, who offers a window into the show’s plans. In the latest installment of Netflix’s teen romance series, the story takes a more grown-up turn. Charlie (Joe Locke) deals with his eating disorder, with his boyfriend Nick (Kit Connor) realizing that he can’t help Charlie on his own. Other characters have their own relationship hurdles in the new eight-episode season, though all are looking ahead to university, with aHeartstopperseason 4renewal still unannounced.

In an interview withTheWrap, Oseman shared that she is still working on volume six of the comics thatHeartstopperis based on. Oseman added that season 4 remains unconfirmed, though again hinted thatseason 4 will be the last if it is renewed. Read Oseman’s quote below:

Nick talks on the phone collaged with Tao and Isaac at school in Heartstopper season 3

We’ve got volume six of the comics, which I’m currently working on at the moment. We don’t know yet if we will have a fourth season, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed, just to get to close the story and conclude everyone’s storylines.

What Heartstopper Season 4 Would Mean For The Show

It’s A Chance To Close The Loop

This is not the first time that Oseman has hinted at the impending end ofHeartstopper. Prior to the debut of season 3, inVariety’s profile on Locke, the creator confirmed that the adaptation’s fourth installment would be its last.Heartstopperseason 3 only debuted on October 3, which means that it is still too early to track the series' ratings. ButifHeartstopperseason 4 is the last, Netflix is more likely to confirm a renewaland allow the show to bow out on its own terms.

Heartstopper Season 3’s Most Satisfying Friendship Was Secretly Set Up In Season 1

Heartstopper season 3’s most surprising and satisfying friendship is finally solidified after a great tease in the Netflix show’s first-ever season.

The ending ofHeartstopperseason 3leaves Charlie and Nick in a good place, but there’s some room for turbulence ahead considering that Nick is contemplating moving away for university. A renewal would close out a loop, at least in the sense of moving the characters away from the high school setting and onto the next chapter of their lives as young adults.

Our Take On Heartstopper’s Future

It’s Good For One More Round

The Netflix series has already accomplished a great deal. Locke and Connor are rising stars, with the former joining the MCU as a co-lead inAgatha All Alongand Connor making waves on the stage and the big screen. He’ll next star in Alex Garland’sWarfareand is part of a Broadway musical adaptation ofRomeo & Julietopposite Rachel Zegler. The same is true for the rest oftheHeartstoppercastlike William Gao and Yasmin Finney, in their roles as Tao and Elle.

The story is also unique in being a fairly positive depiction of what it could mean to be a member of the queer community, with minimal angst and avoiding a harsher outlook. The approach has earned the adaptation its share of supporters, and it does seem likely that Oseman will get to bring the end of the story to the screen. At this point, however, it’s not confirmed.
