TheHigh Potentialepisode 13investigation, however, proves exceptionally difficult. Morgan faces off with a kidnapper who creates intricate puzzles for the police to solve, ranging from a literal jigsaw puzzle to an abstract collection of paintings depicting game pieces from around the world. Though the clues he leaves are whimsical, the kidnapper sets his victims in time-sensitive traps that lead to death if the riddles aren’t decoded in time. The High Potential Season 1 Finale Sets Up A Season 2 Continuation

The Serial Kidnapper Is Still On The Loose

Despite the LAPD playing the kidnapper’s games, the suspect they’d been focusing on turns out to be a red herring. The prime suspect, David Peck, was revealed to be in a rehab facility for months, while the real culprit was posing as him in Oz’s grief group. The LAPD realizes the ploy too late, as the kidnapper adopts a new clean-shaven look and a dramatically different haircut that transforms his appearance. With the police back at square one,High Potentialsets him the kidnapper up to be the first recurring villain in the series.

…when the kidnapper returns toHigh Potential, he’s made it clear that he only has one playmate in mind: Morgan.

Aside from most likely returning inHigh Potentialseason 2, the aftermath of the episode 13 case will affect the main characters. Oz nearly died and, considering he had just opened up about his father’s death, he may undergo an existential crisis or at the very least PTSD.The kidnapper marks the firstHigh Potentialcase to go unsolvedsince Morgan joined the LAPD, which could inspire some increased doubt from higher-ups at the department regarding Morgan’s skill. Plus, when the kidnapper returns toHigh Potential, he’s made it clear that he only has one playmate in mind: Morgan.

High Potential Season 1’s Unfinished Case Puts Morgan’s Kids At The Center In Season 2

Targeting Them Would Be Targeting Morgan

Theending ofHigh Potentialseason 1confirms thatthe kidnapper will target Morgan when he returns— but he may not go for her directly. He may enjoy Morgan playing his games too much, so it would make sense for him to instead go after her loved ones. While it’s possible the kidnapper might target Morgan’s exes, it’s more likely that Ava or Elliot will be taken. If Ava was kidnapped, it would be an interesting reversal ofHigh Potential’s Roman mysterywhere her father vanished for 15 years.

High Potential Proves That It Has Enough Story To Maintain Its Quality In Season 2

Now that High Potential season 2 has officially been confirmed, the future is bright and filled to the brim with potential new storylines.

If the kidnapper doesn’t go after the children, they’ll still be severely impacted by Morgan’s involvement in the case. He has plans to“play again”solely with Morgan, but she will end up losing regardless of what games they play. If a civilian dies, she will take on the guilt. Either way, Morgan will be scarred. She will probably win the fight, but she won’t walk away unscathed. However the kidnapper affects Morgan, it will trickle down to her children inHigh Potentialseason 2.

How High Potential Season 2 Can Make Morgan’s Family More Relevant To Its Story

Even If They Aren’t In Danger, The Characters Can Shine

WhileMorgan’s children need bigger roles inHigh Potentialseason 2, they don’t necessarily need to be in danger. Ava and Elliot have had small personal plots already, like Ava’s complicated feelings about Roman, Ava secretly going on birth control, and Elliot being ostracized by his classmates for his intelligence. Although their storylines have always been supplemental,High Potentialseason 2 could bring Ava and Elliot into the forefrontor even merge them with the main plots of each episode. InHigh Potential’s French predecessor,HPI, the children even helped Morgane (Audrey Fleurot) with her investigations.

Matthew Lamb

Elliot Radovic

Highlighting the children could complicate the procedural in interesting ways. Elliot might be great at helping Morgan analyze clues, but involving the kids in Major Crimes cases could further jeopardizeMorgan’s future at the LAPD inHigh Potential. If the children helping Morgan proves too unrealistic,High Potentialcan still bring Ava and Elliot into the main plots more subtly, like when Ava stumbled into the hostage situation during High Potential episode 7. With so many potential avenues to take, there’s no reason whyHigh Potentialcan’t make the children a bigger part of the main cast when it returns.
