Not content to stop there, Dynamite has also rolled out new characters as well. Early in Shalvey and Moss’Thundercatsrun, readers meet Calica, a mysterious Thundercat who betrayed the team and broke Lion-O’s heart. Apex, recentlyrevealed to be a twisted and futuristic version of Lion-O,is another innovation the creators have introduced to the mythos. Dynamite has also published otherThundercatsbooks, such as a miniseries spotlighting Cheetara, as well asThundercats Lost, which follows the adventures of some of the franchise’s lesser known ‘cats. Each one of these was a masterclass in how to handle a reboot.

Thundercatswas one of the most popular entertainment properties introduced in the 1980s, at a time when similar toy lines were plentiful.Thundercatsimproved on the formula cartoons such asHe-Man and the Masters of the Universecame up with, and earned its place in the hearts and minds of a generation. While other revival attempts have met with mixed results, Dynamite’s reboot is connecting not only with those who grew up watching one of theThundercatscartoons, but also a new wave of fans. It is a good time to be aThundercatsfan.

Scorpius Needs His Own Action Figure

Scorpius is a new character, but he also looks like he would have been right at home in the originalThundercatscartoon and toy line.

And the introduction of characters such as Scorpius perfectly demonstrates why Dynamite’sThundercatsrevival is the best yet. Scorpius is a new character, but he also looks like he would have been right at home in the originalThundercatscartoon and toy line. This potent mixture of the old and the new is exactly what theThundercatsfranchise needed, and fans have responded, making its first issue a massive hit. Scorpius might very well be a harbinger for a new golden age for theThundercats.
