As audiences continue to wait for confirmation that filming has begun on the long-awaited project, Yvette Nicole Brown offers a curious tease aboutCommunity: The Movie’s story. Development on the film continuation of the cult classic show gestated for years before it was finally confirmed to be greenlit at Peacock in late 2022 with nearly the entire original cast returning. Filming has been delayed multiple times forCommunity: The Moviein the years since, due to both the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike and the cast’s busy schedules on other projects.

I read one script for the movie, and I don’t wanna give anything away, but I don’t know per se that where everyone ended is going to be a part of where they start in the film. I think I can say that safely. So she could be coming straight from the bayou, or she could have left the bayou, you know, a year or so ago and been back in Greendale. So who knows? Who knows? Is Dan Harmon Considering Some Retcons?
Brown’s original departure fromCommunitycame ahead of season 6due to the Emmy nominee needing to take care of her ailing father. The show not only explained this as the reason behind Shirley’s exit, but also revealed in cameos that she had moved to the bayou to work as a professional chef for a troubled private detective and his assistant in crime solving. In looking at Brown’s comments, it seems likely that this will be kept canon, though her note that some may not be in the same place as the series finale is sure to raise curiosity about potential retcons.
10 Unresolved Community Plots The Movie Needs To Address
Now that Community may finally be getting a movie, it’s worth looking into the biggest loose plot threads from the series that need to be resolved.
Communityis certainly no stranger to retconning some of its past storylines, with the transition between seasons 4 and 5 being the most infamous of its run when creator Dan Harmon was brought back as showrunner after being fired from the former season. Season 5 subsequently saw many prior storylines done away with or explained as having been part of “the gas leak year”, namely Troy and Britta’s relationship. Harmon Should Keep Everything Outside Of Season 4 Canon
As with any show, there were certainly decisions made by Harmon and his writing teams that I didn’t always agree with, but even still, I thinkCommunity: The Movieshould keep everything set up by the series finale as canon going into its story. The idea of Abed becoming a production assistant on a TV show was perfect for the cinephile character, while Annie’s do-good nature made her FBI internship a great way to send her off, all while Jeff’s decision to remain as a professor at Greendale and consider re-exploring his relationship with Britta showed meaningful growth on both of their parts.
10 Non-Study Group Members We Want To See In The Community Movie
The Community movie needs to bring back many beloved non-study group members who make Greendale feel complete in Dan Harmon’s titular comedy TV show.
I do think the one element of the gas leak year that should be revisited inCommunity: The Movieis Abed’s relationship withBrie Larson’s Rachel, who was largely absent due to her growing film career. The connection they had was genuinely sweet, and since she was never technically retconned by Harmon, it would be interesting to see how he reintroduced her to the world. Given Donald Glover previously indicatedCommunity: The Moviewill be a college reunion with Abed now as a big director, Harmon could easily get very meta with Larson’s return, or make it a heartwarming reunion between the two at Greendale.
