Black Myth: Wukongis an extremely boss-heavy action RPG, providing players opportunities to face various enemies, all with unique skills and movesets, such as Whiteclad Noble. While not a King or even a Chief Yaoguai, Whiteclad Noble is considered one of the hardest bosses in Chapter 1, one of the few with two phases, but is equally thrilling and engaging to confront.

Due to his formidable attacks and high amounts of movement that can leave players stunned and staggered, creating a strategic combat plan is integral to increasing your chances of defeating White Clad Noble. Aside from selecting the most effective Stance and mastering the skill of dodging, you can also bring a plethora of useful items that can aid you in surviving this tough challenge.

Is Black Myth: Wukong A Soulslike?

Black Myth: Wukong borrows a lot of elements from the souls series, but is it as difficult and can it be truly classed as a souslike game?

Marsh Of White Mist

Whiteclad Noble is one of the late bosses in Chapter 1, with the final boss fight just two bosses away. In chapter one, you will find him in theBamboo Grove region, in an area named Marsh of the White Mist. Players must have beaten Guangmou in Snake Trail to reach him, allowing them to continue the path into this region.

From’Marsh of White Mist’Keeper’s Shrine, follow the path through the roofed archway, descending your way across the wooden walkway. Make sure to take out the single enemy along the way, who won’t respawn if you rest again at the Keeper’s Shrine.

If you take an immediate right when you come to the split pathways before descending further, you will meet an NPC named Shen Monkey, who has a shop set up where you can sell and buy useful items for the fight and even upgrade your Gourds.

Continue descending the wooden pathway until you reach a large body of shallow water, where the boss fight occurs. Whiteclad Noble stands in front of a large temple waiting to face you, which willautomatically trigger a short cutscenebefore the fight starts.

The Destined One selecting the Pillar Staff Stance in Black Myth: Wukong.

As one of the toughest bosses in Chapter 1, it is integral to devise a combat strategy to overcome him. Fortunately, players can utilize manyskills, abilities, and even some itemsto gain the upper hand.

The Best Stance

For anyboss battle inBlack Myth: Wukong, selecting your Stance is integral to preparing for your combat strategy. When going against Whiteclad Noble, thePillar Stance is the most effectiveway to level up, as it allows you to perch on top of your staff before using your Heavy Attack to strike enemies from above.

Moreover, using the water, you may launch a sweeping counterattack while evading ground attacks, which Whiteclad Noble deals with. This stance technique offers offense and defense, the latter of whichBlack Myth: Wukonglacks other than dodging, so it is one of the most useful Stances in the game.

The Destined One using the Immobalize Mysticism on Whiteclad Noble boss in Black Myth: Wukong.

Another tactical option is Smash Stance, as itsHeavy Attack can be charged while moving. This is a highly versatile option, as movement and mobility are extremely important in the fight against Whiteclad Noble. Since he rapidly moves around the battlefield, sometimes moving away from the player, using this Stance will allow you to run up and close toward him while getting ready to land a critical hit with your Heavy Attack.

The Best Mysticism

While you will only have the Immobalize Mysticism inBlack Myth: Wukong, you can choose to give it some enhancements through its skill tree. Immozalize is a control spell whichfreezes the enemy in place, allowing you to deal damage for a short duration until they break free from it.

To make this most effective, cast it when you’re close to the enemy while Whitecladd Noble is exhausted, staggered, or downed. You can do as many Light Attacks as possible, a few Heavy Attacks, or even a combination of both. Depending on your Stances, there will be a combination for you that will deal the most damage in total while they are frozen in place.

The Destined One selecting the Guangmou Spirit in Black Myth: Wukong.

You will most likely only have two options to level it up at this stage of thestory inBlack Myth: Wukong, being either Crash or Stagnation. In this case, Stagnation is recommended, as itextends the duration of the next Immobalization inflictedon them, which even stacks up to five times. This means that the next time you use your Mysticism, it will last longer.

This is an excellent choice for Whiteclad Noble, who has high mobility. While Crash is also a great option, which moderately increases the damage dealt to enemies that are Immobilized,Stagnation allows you to deal more overall damagethroughout the boss fight.

The Best Spirit

When you defeat particular high-level enemies and bosses inBlack Myth: Wukong, you can cultivate their Spirits at any Keeper’s Shrine. This allows you to effectively take their form and use their effects momentarily, which can be extremely powerful in combat. At this stage in Chapter 1,players will have unlocked Wandering Wight’s and Guangou’s Spirits.

As you may only select one to use, choosing either depends on your preferred playstyle in thegameplay ofBlack Myth: Wukong. Wandering White’s Spirit is great for players who enjoy Heavy Attacks, dealing tanky hard hits. Using this spirit allows you to ram into foes with your giant bronze skull, which hits devastatingly. Alternatively,Guangmou will enable you to summon snakes that spit venomat your opponent, inflicting Poison damage.

While one deals massive damage at once, the other deals a damage-over-time status effect, allowing you to slowly chip away at Whiteclad Noble’s health bar. There is no superior choice, and both have a high Qi Cost, so it entirely depends on your combat style. These Spirits can also be upgraded at a Keeper’s Shrine as long as you have enough Will and sufficient materials.

Similar to Spirits, players can also use Transformations, although there are fewer options within this category ofBlack Myth: Wukong. In Chapter 1, players will only gain one Transformation and another in Chapter 2.Red Tides transforms you into a Wolf Guai, allowing you to inflict Scorch Bane on the enemy with every attack.

You will receive a secondary health bar, allowing you to use the Moon Dance Light Attack, which continually slashes the enemy, and the Moon CHase Heavy Attack, which consists of dash attacks. These attacks will set Whiteclad Noble on fire, and although you’re both standing in water, he can still take some status damage from these attacks, but the main source of damage comes from the blades themselves.

By using this Transformation, you will gain a second life that, when depleted, transforms you back into your original body. It is best to save this for Whiteclad Noble’s second phase when the boss becomes much stronger and harder to take down due to the strength of this Transformation’s attacks.

The Best Consumables

While using your Gourd will be your primary source of healing, some consumable items you can bring along may save your life during the boss fight against White Clad Noble. As he doesn’t deal any elemental-based damage, the best consumable to bring is the Evil Repelling Medicament, an Uncommon Alleviating Medicine thatsignificantly increases Damage Reductionover a long duration.

Another consumable worth considering is the Fortifying Medicament, another Alleviating Medicine thatenhances the Tenacity of certain staff abilities. Using this will make your Stances and attacks less susceptible to interruptions for a short duration, which is extremely useful given that Whiteclad Noble can stagger players immensely.

Both these consumables can be crafted with certain ingredients in the’Make Medicine’tab or bought from the Store at the Keeper’s Shrine.

Boss Fight Moveset & Combat Strategy

Whiteclad Noble has a varied moveset inBlack Myth: Wukong, which is evident inShirrako’s boss fight demonstration on YouTube. He utilizes various skills that can take players down if they’re not careful. The table below showcases hismain attack roster and possible countersand protective measures that players can take:

Counter

Jump-lunge

Whiteclad Noble jumps in the air before landing and lunging his spear into the player.

Players should wait for a second while he’s in the air and then dodge to the right as he lands to evade the lunge.

Spear sweep

Whiteclad Noble sweeps his spear in a circular motion across the water, dealing damage from the spear and AoE damage from the water.

Jump over the swing or dodge backwards to create distance, avoiding getting caught by the spear and taking damage from the water-AoE

Spear swing

The boss plants his spear into the water and uses it to swing around, kicking the player before striking them with his spear.

Roll backward to get out of the vicinity of his kick and dodge either backwards or to the side once more to evade the second attack from his spear.

Six-swing combo

Whiteclad Noble swings his spear five times in quick succession before spinning around and dealing a heavy swing attack with his spear.

Create lots of distance by dodging backwards, as if you’re caught by one of these swings, you will stagger and be hit by all attacks.

Javelin throw

Whiteclad Noble jumps in the air and momentarily launches his spear like a javelin, aiming at the player.

Don’t dodge too early, as his spear will catch you otherwise. Instead, roll a second after he jumps in the air, carefully watching as he launches the spear.

During and between many of these attacks,Whiteclad Noble rapidly moves around the arena, which can be a little overwhelming, given his speed. This can disorientate you if you don’t watch carefully, allowing him to hit you from many different sides and angles.

Hiscombos often change, making him one of the more unpredictable bosses, which adds an extra challenge to the boss fight. Sometimes, he’ll do a double swing and a lunge, while at other times, this number changes and ends with a swing rather than a lunge. It is, therefore, important not to allow yourself to get caught, as if you do, it will be difficult to evade the attacks to follow.

When you enter Whiteclad Noble’s second phase, triggered by another cutscene, hishealth bar will go back to full, and he will transform into his true form, which appears to be a water-based Naga. While most of his attacks don’t seem to change inherently, they appear to have further reach, and his mobility improves, using the water to his advantage.

He utilizes his spear to deal water-based splash damage, which can reach players from very far away, and his spear lunges and AoE attacks also have a much further reach than in phase 1. Moreover, Whiteclad Noble also dives in and out of the water to deal surprise attacks.

If players get too far away from him, he will start using his spear to create water blades that spread out toward you, which can severely stagger, eliminating your chance to retaliate.

Most of these movementsrequire players to carefully observe and not dodge earlier than necessary. Some of his attacks are delayed, despite his speed, and his water attacks are all stagger-inducing. While maintaining distance is also necessary to avoid his AoE attacks, ensure you’re ready to evade his ranged attacks, which are equally formidable.

Boss Fight Rewards

Upon defeating Whiteclad Noble, players will most likely receive a Spark, allowing them to level up, as well as x687 Will and the following useful crafting materials: x3 Yarn and Jade Fang.

Make sure to follow the pathway towards the back of the boss arena to interact with the Bell before returning to the marsh, where you can progress into the cave to continue chapter 1 inBlack Myth: Wukong.
