After Jun-ho infiltrates the Games,Squid Gameseason 1’s endingreveals that the person running them is his brother, Hwang In-ho. The two have an exchange before In-ho shoots him, sending Jun-ho off of a cliff. Viewers knew he’d survive the fall when he was confirmed for the cast ofSquid Gameseason 2. However, the means of Jun-ho’s survival was unclear.
Fortunately,Squid Gameseason 2 explains what becomes of the detective after being shot in the shoulder. The season 2 premiere opens with him working as a traffic cop, but he’s still committed to finding the mysterious island the Games are held on. It’s clear his chief and fellow detectives don’t have enough evidence to listen to him. However, there is one person willing to search for the island with Jun-ho, and it’s the same man responsible for his survival in season 1.

Squid Gameseason 2, episode 1 reveals that Jun-ho survives his gunshot wound and fall from the cliff in season 1, andhe’s found in the water by a fisherman named Captain Park. Captain Park happens to be sailing near the island, and he pulls Jun-ho out of the water. It’s fortunate that Captain Park is so close by, as it’s difficult to see how Jun-ho would have made it back to Seoul otherwise. Unfortunately, both Captain Park and Jun-ho are unable to locate the island again after returning home.

TheSquid Gameseason 2 premiere reveals that Jun-ho maintains a friendship with Captain Park well after the fisherman brings him back to the mainland. In fact, even though Jun-ho’s colleagues in law enforcement won’t do anything about the Games, Captain Park takes him seriously. The two continue to search for the island where they take place, and"Bread and Lottery” sees them trying yet another locationwithout much luck.

Of course, it’d be difficult to host a secret tournament without being well hidden. Fortunately, it looks like Jun-ho will keep up his hunt inSquid Gameseason 2.
