While the exterior team is struggling under the leadership of Bosun Iain MacLean, the interior team’s issues are due to the Stews, Bri Muller and Ellie Dubaich, and their difficulty working together. No issues have been worse than Chef Jono’s, however, and his poor performance.
Chef Jono’s behavior throughout the seasonhas been questionable, with his attitude making him a problem from the first days of the season. Jono’s skills haven’t been called into question often, as his meals are typically well prepared and full of flavor, but the way he cooks hasn’t always been able to bring the guests enjoyable experiences. He’s Been Spoken To Several Times
ThroughoutBelow Deck Mediterraneanseason 9,Chef Jono has been making mistakes that should’ve had him fired ages ago. Captain Sandy, who values giving crew members second chances, has been doing her best to ensure that her crew feels they can learn and grow from the mistakes they make, but it’s been for naught with Jono. While her practices are commendable and clearly work for other crew members,Captain Sandy’s style of forgivenessisn’t working with Chef Jono.
Although Jono’s cooking has been able to pick up after the first few charters of the season, the beginning ofBelow DeckMediterreaneanseason 9 was incredibly difficult for the chef. Jono’s struggles surrounded following the charter guests’ dietary preferences and incorporating what they wanted into the menushe was creating for their time aboard Mustique. With an inability to take feedback about his flavors and spices,Chef Jono struggled to create dishesthe charter guests were enjoying, even after getting feedback from guests, crew, and the Captain herself.

While it’s been difficult for Jono to cook to the specifications that the guests want, especially considering his background isn’t in Mediterranean-style food, his expertise in the kitchen should allow him to make dishes that work for everyone.Captain Sandy has seen that she can’t trust Jono with the meals he needs to createwhen left up to his own devices, which should be a fireable offense. IfChef Jono can’t create mealsthat the guests will enjoy, how can Captain Sandy continue to work with him successfully?
Despite knowing that Jono has had a hard time working in the confines of the Mustique’s galley, she’s been having a hard time reprimanding Jono and trying to find new ways to get him to be able to work successfully.Captain Sandy knows she can’t trust Jonowith the food that the charter guests will consume during their trip aboard Mustique, but she’s chosen to allow him to continue to try to improve. Even with chance after chance,I think this will likely be Jono’s only stint onBelow Deck Mediterranean.

Chef Johnathan’s Food Isn’t Up To Standards
It’s Caused Serious Issues
Throughout the charter season, Jono’s meals have been sub-par in various ways. During the first charter of the season, there were missing provisions which led Jono to not be able to prepare any of the dishes that he wanted to. This wasn’t Jono’s fault, but the fact that he had to think on his feet was difficult for him, as he had a plan in mind about what he wanted to serve. During the next charters, however,Jono had full provisions and still struggled to create the meals requested.
In a stretch of earlyBelow Deck Medseason 9 charters that went spectacularly poorly for Jono,he was unable to create meals that the charter guests wanted to eat. Using flavor and spice combinations that the guests openly complained about,Jono didn’t take well to feedbackand struggled to implement any change. He served meals cold, created dishes that the guests didn’t like, and ultimately found himself preparing food that wasn’t up to the high standard of a luxury superyacht.

Chef Johnathan Will Likely Be Fired Before The End Of The Season
He’s Been Shown To Make A Major Mistake
Although Jono has been doing slightly better throughout the midway point of the season, his time on Mustique may come to an end before they dock for the charter season’s end. In previews of upcomingepisodes ofBelow Deck Mediterranean,Jono is shown serving a guest a near-fatal meal when he’s already been warned about her allergy. One of the guests on a current charter shared that she’s allergic to raw fish, and though her group wanted to have a sushi dinner, she wouldn’t be able to have any raw fish herself.
In previews for the next episode, it’s shown that Jono accidentally serves the allergic guest a plate of raw fish. Though she doesn’t appear to eat any of the food, she does inform someone that she can’t have raw fish, and Captain Sandy seems to take this very seriously. With someone being let go and getting teased in the preview,I believe Jono will be fired before the end of the season. With such a poor experience onBelow Deck Mediterranean, I imagine this will be the last time viewers see Jono on the show.
