Bill Skarsgårdhas one more project coming up in 2024 thanks to Robert Eggers’Nosferatu, and his latest comments about his character only make me more excited about it.2024 has been a big year for Bill Skarsgårdwith projects from different genres that have further shown his acting range. Skarsgård surprised the audience with his performance in the action comedy movieBoy Kills Worldand later went for a darker character in Rupert Sanders’The Crow, where he played the title character.
Bill Skarsgård will be closing 2024 with perhaps his most anticipated project of the year:Nosferatu, a remake of the 1922 German expressionist classic of the same name by F.W. Murnau. Directed by Robert Eggers,Nosferatuis described as a gothic tale of obsession as it follows Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp), a young woman haunted by Count Orlok (Skarsgård), the vampire infatuated with her. Manythings aboutNosferatu, including Skarsgård’s Count Orlok look, are a mystery, but his latest comments about the character make me even more excited about the movie.

Bill Skarsgård Said Count Orlok Terrified Him Like No Other Character
Bill Skarsgård Has Shared Part Of His Process For Nosferatu
There are a couple of things aboutNosferatuthat make me excited about it. First, Robert Eggers’ involvement is enough to attract my attention, and the cast is quite promising, with talents like Willem Dafoe, Ralph Ineson, and Nicholas Hoult. The mystery around the physical appearance of Count Orlok has also added to the excitement, and to make it even better,Bill Skarsgård has now said that Count Orlok terrified him like no other character he has played– and that’s saying a lot from the man who has played some truly dark characters.
Skarsgård said he has “never been more terrified of a role” and probably won’t be again, describing the whole experience as Orlok as “intense”.

In an interview withAnOther Magazine, Skarsgård opened up to Eggers about the process of bringing Count Orlok to life. Skarsgård said he has “never been more terrified of a role” and probably won’t be again, describing the whole experience as Orlok as “intense” – from channeling this dark character to the heavy makeup process he had to go through to look like Count Orlok. Skarsgård was terrified when he saw the first molds and was unsure that he could bring the character to life, as he was physically so different from him that he feared he couldn’t make it feel real.
Skarsgård eventually found the way to feel comfortable in all the Count Orlok makeup and bring him to life in a way he felt real, but admitted that finding Count Orlok was terrifying. Skarsgård described Count Orlok as a “dead corpse”, andhe had to channel something that isn’t him. Skarsgård shared he had never prepared so hard for a role before, but once they started shooting, Count Orlok was already formed and he could channel him when needed.

Bill Skarsgård Has A History Of Playing Dark & Disturbing Characters
Bill Skarsgård Has Become A Favorite In The Horror Genre
If Count Orlok terrified Bill Skarsgård, I can only imagine how dark and disturbing the character is, as some of his past horror roles have been pretty dark.Skarsgård’s most famous role to date is Pennywisethe Dancing Clown in Andy Muschietti’sItduology, and Pennywise/It is one of the darkest and most terrifying characters from the world of Stephen King. It is an evil shape-shifting entity that takes the form of its targets’ (mostly children) biggest fears so it can feed off their fear (and kill them).
Before Pennywise,Skarsgård played Roman Godfrey in Netflix’sHemlock Grove. Roman Godfrey was an upir a.k.a. a vampire, butthe atrocities he committed were more a result of his ego than his vampiric condition. In 2024, Skarsgård played Eric in a new adaptation ofThe Crow, which was more violent and graphic than the previous adaptation. Skarsgård’s version of Eric had a darker past than that of Brandon Lee, and his mission as the crow had more obstacles that led him to make a huge sacrifice to save his dead girlfriend.

Bill Skarsgård’s Upcoming Horror Movie Can Make Up For This 11-Year-Old Vampire Flop
One of Bill Skarsgård’s horror projects from 2024 can make up for an 11-year-old vampire flop he starred in while continuing his horror streak.
Taking all these characters into account, it’s surprising that Skarsgård found Count Orlok to be the most terrifying character he has played so far. However, that speaks volumes about Eggers’ approach to the story and character, which makesNosferatua lot more exciting, and knowing all the process Skarsgård went through to find Count Orlok further adds to the anticipation.

How Count Orlok Can Be Different From Bill Skarsgård’s Previous Horror Roles
Nosferatu Is Unlike Previous Bill Skarsgård Horror Movies
Skarsgård described Count Orlok quite well when he referred to him as a “dead corpse”, as he’s an “undead” and, as such, does dark and disturbing things – including but not limited to feeding off humans. Orlok is moved by his infatuation with Ellen and spreads fear on his way to her, which leads to tragic events at the end ofNosferatu.
Bill Skarsgård’s Terrible 2024 Rotten Tomatoes Score Can Be Fixed By 1 Horror Remake
Bill Skarsgård isn’t having the best Rotten Tomatoes streak this year so far, but it can be fixed by one highly-anticipated horror remake.
Of course, Count Orlok’s terrifying nature couldn’t be fully explored and shown in Murnau’s movie due to the film’s limitations at the time, but Eggers’Nosferatuis the perfect chance for it, and, thankfully,Bill Skarsgårdtook the challenge of finding, understanding, developing, and embodying Count Orlok too seriously.
