Teen Wolfstar Tyler Hoechlin speaks about whether he would return to his role in the series. Hoechlin is known for playing Derek Hale in the originalTeen WolfTV series, which ran from 2011 to 2017. The show also featured a leading cast including Tyler Posey, Holland Roden, Dylan O’Brien, Linden Ashby, and JR Bourne. The series is a much darker interpretation of the original 1985 Michael J. Fox movie that took a comedic approach to an ordinary high school student discovering he has wolf powers. Even years later, theTeen Wolfshow has a massive following.
In an interview withScreenRant, Hoechlin answers whether he would ever return to theTeen Wolffranchise. In response, he did note that his character is on “[his] fourth death” of the franchise, but he would be absolutely willing to come back. His co-stars are “most of [his] best friends in life now,” and thinks that aTeen Wolfrevival would be possible because “there’s a demand for it” from fans. Derek Died In Teen Wolf: The Movie
As Hoechlin alludes to in his quote, there’s just one problem with Derek returning to the franchise: canonically,Derek died. In 2023, Paramount+ extended the franchise by creatingTeen Wolf: The Moviewith a bunch of the original cast members. In this movie, the Nogitsune is back again as the antagonist. In the end of the movie, Derek sacrifices himself by burning up with the Nogitsune. As such, in order to return Derek to the franchise, they would have to explain how he returns from this death.

If the show did come back, audiences would definitely want to see as many of the main cast member as possible. As such, this may tempt the potential future showrunners to figure out a way to bring back Derek, despite his apparent death inTeen Wolf: The Movie.

While movies and TV shows have faked deaths before, it is hard to survive being burned up in flames. For this reason, it seems like theTeen Wolfteam could not bring back Hoechlin for a future revival without essentially de-canonizing the Paramount+ movie. This could help a future show itself, but might make viewers question the stakes if characters' actions and injuries do not appear to have real consequences.
