During your explorations of the Vatican inIndiana Jones and the Great Circle, you’ll come across a semi-optional Fieldwork sidequest that has you searching the city for a series of cryptic inscriptions. This is one ofseveral Fieldwork sidequests in the Vatican area, which are designed to be completed alongside the main story. Fieldwork typically touches on additional history that doesn’t factor into the main quest, or fills in some main story context with additional lore. “The Secret of Giants” falls into the latter category, helping to solve the mystery of the missing Father Crescenzo.
There are ten inscriptions to be found for “The Secret of Giants,“all of them scattered throughout the Vatican, and many of them well hidden. While most of them can be found simply by exploring as soon as you unlock free roam, others require you to complete certain other main quests or side activities first. And of course, before you may complete the quest, you’ll have to progress the story far enough to unlock it. Here’s everything you need to know about “The Secret of Giants” Fieldwork quest.

How To Start The Secret Of Giants Quest
Finding Father Crescenzo
You’ll get your first inkling of “The Secret of Giants” Fieldwork during the main quest “The Stolen Cat Mummy,” when you arrive at the Vatican and go exploring some subterranean ruins with Father Antonio. This is a fairly linear area - follow the path down, swim through the grotto, and use your whip to open the gate. Inside, Antonio will find the skeletal remains of Father Crescenzo, along with his journal, which betrays an all-consuming obsession with mysterious inscriptions found throughout the Vatican. You literally can’t miss this step, so just keep progressing the main quest until you find it.
Completing this main quest step also unlocks another Fieldwork quest, “The Mad Priest.” Speak to Sister Catherine in the Sistine Chapel to unlock it.

Antonio then asks you, as part of the main quest,to return to him with photos of four inscriptions from anywhere around town. This is technically separate from “The Secret of Giants,” but is a necessary step in unlocking it. Indy marks their locations according to Father Crescenzo’s map, and heads out to search for them.
Unlocking The Camera
But first, you’ll need to get a camera. Antonio wants photographic evidence of the inscriptions you find, and says that his contact at the Vatican Post Office can help. Follow the map marker there to speak to Ernesto, who’ll offer to sell you a camera for 379 lire. In case you may’t afford it, take some time to explore Blackshirt outposts and complete other sidequests as available.Getting into the Vatican boxing ringcan also net you some prize money. You should manage to save up enough in a short time, then return to Ernesto.
Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Review: Already A Priceless Artifact
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle valiantly attempts to recapture what makes the movies special, and like Indy himself, it usually lands on its feet.
And with that, you’re ready to go out and look for the inscriptions. Although the inscriptions are small and hard to find, they’re all scribbled onto the same kinds of shield-shaped seals, so once you find the first one, the rest should be easy to recognize. Find four of them, then return to Antonio again to proceed to the next step in the main quest, and to unlock “The Secret of Giants.” You’ll need to find all ten (and progress the main quest a little further) to complete the Fieldwork quest. From here on out,you can find the inscriptions in any order you like. We’ll let you know when they require you to complete a specific task first, like a quest step or finding a certain key.

How To Find Every The Secret Of Giants Inscription

Head down the stairs and through the open door into the dark room. The inscription is on the wall to your rightas you enter.
Inscription #2: Belvedere Courtyard Garden
Head towards the Belvedere Courtyard from the east side, and look for a gate into a smaller garden area with large hedges. Walk through it (it should be unlocked), and travel to the northeastern corner tofind another inscription above a fountain.

You may also need to sneak through this area if you’ve yet to find the Blackshirt Uniform that you need to enter the boxing ring.Head up the stairs to the east of the fountainto find a smaller fountain with a seal and an inscription above it.
Inscription #5: Excavation Site
There’s also an inscription located in the Excavation Site, just off the Apostolic Palace. You Shouldn’t Disable This Divisive Graphics Setting In Indiana Jones & The Great Circle
This setting is not for everyone and is a matter of personal preference, but players should give it a chance as it replicates the source material.
Either way, you’ll have to sneak through the courtyard, avoiding the Blackshirts skulking around, while you head forthe inscription in the northwest corner. Use the verticality of the area to escape notice; the Blackshirts typically patrol the upper walkway, so you can drop into the dig site for ample cover.
Inscription #6: Rooftops
To find this inscription, you’ll need to reach the upper floors of the Apostolic Palace. You can do so either by exploring it naturally, or by climbing up the scaffolding behind the stage in the central courtyard. Once inside the room with the House of God puzzle box mystery, jump out a window onto the rooftops above the south-central courtyard. Head right and use your whip to climb up to the higher rooftopto find the next inscriptionimmediately on your left.
Inscription #7: Behind The Stage
Go to the central courtyard of the Vatican map, and look south towardsthe giant banner of Mussolini and the half-built stage. Walk around the stage, and you’ll find a bit of scaffolding you can climb up. At the top, jump onto the nearby balcony and turn right to see the next inscription nestled in a corner.
Inscription #8: Sewers
In order to find this inscription, you’ll need to progress “The Mad Priest” sidequest to the point where you unlock the sewers. From the entrance, climb upwards using the ledges and your whip until you reach the next inscription at the map point displayed above.
Inscription #9: Hidden Alcove
Continue through the main quest until you find a way through the wooden double doors in an alcove off the southern road. Take the stairs up to the roof, crouch and walk through the hole in the fence, then rappel down to the lower area (which is full of Blackshirts)to find the penultimate inscription.
Inscription #10: Apostolic Library Courtyard
For the final inscription, you’ll need to start the Fieldwork quest entitled “A Nun In Trouble,” and continue through it until you unlock the Apostolic Library’s museum wing. Head to the courtyard adjacent to it. Once you get access to this area, simply head up the stairs in the northwestern corner to find the final inscription.
With all ten inscriptions in hand, return to Antonio’s office and interact with the poster board next to his desk to turn in all the photos. He’ll hand you one of theAncient Relics you can find in the Vatican, and you’ll also unlock an achievement called The Path of Junia for completing “The Secret of Giants” inIndiana Jones and the Great Circle.
