Trackerstar Justin Hartley teases what to expect for the latter half of season 2. Following a self-described “rewardist,“the show has returned from its winter break and theTrackerseason 2 mid-season premieresaw Colter Shaw (Hartley) finally solving the daunting case that he’s followed throughout season 2: the disappearance of a teenager named Gina Pickett. Audiences learn that Pickett is, in fact, dead, but the show’s mystery doesn’t stop there.
In an interview withTV Insider,Hartley teases what lies ahead in the back half ofTrackerseason 2. Specifically, he reacts to the death of Colter’s father, Ashton, and whether stars Jensen Ackles and Melissa Roxburgh, who play Colter’s siblings, Russell and Dory, will return to the show this season. Concerning Ackles and Roxburgh’s respective returns, Hartley divulges, “We’re writing for them, yeah.” He also teases"The family thing gets real. We have a lot of action in the back part of the season.”
Yeah, I think hopefully so. Yeah, that’s the big thing, right? I don’t like the idea of wrapping things up in a pretty little bow just for the sake of the fact that it’s the final episode of the season, and so we write to the plot so that everyone’s like, oh, great, everything’s perfect and fine, and we can go and make a third season. I don’t really like that idea. I’m not really interested in that. I’m more interested in propelling the story in a way that makes sense, and if it ends up being four episodes or 44 episodes or 144 episodes to tell the most compelling story, then that’s what it is. Not just trying to get more episodes in the bag or trying to finish a story in time. I think there’s a beautiful way to tell a story in sort of the best way, and I think that’s what we should do. And all the writers are on board with that, too, everyone wants to do that.
So we’ll definitely dive back into that this season, and we’ll figure out a lot more and he’ll get more leads. But sometimes when you get more leads and find out more information, it just unravels more s**t. And sometimes that’s more interesting. And the way in which he died and the mystery behind it and what he was involved with and who he was involved in it with being the government and all that kind of stuff. There are so many threats to this that he’s following, and it is almost like he almost needs a wall to write things down, almost needs like aDexterwall. You know what I mean? And maybe he will have that, but it certainly unravels here towards the end of the season.

With thePickett case resolved,Trackerseason 2 still has plenty of room to further develop the mysteries surrounding Colter’s family,particularly his father’s death. A definitive return for Russell and Dory indicates thatTrackerwill continue to lean away from its original, more bottle-episode-esque style and focus more on the long-term, ongoing story that lies underneath the show’s individual cases.
