A big-nameBatmanwriter has revealed that they still have a lot of ideas for DC Comics' iconic hero. A lot of high-profile creators have worked on the Caped Crusader in the last few years, and one who said goodbye to Bruce Wayne is letting fans know that they have more adventures waiting in the wings.
PerBleeding Cool, Christian Ward, Jazzlyn Stoneand James Tynion IVwere at the Thought Bubble Comic Art Festival in Harrogate. Tynion discussed his work with Ward and Stone, includingThe Nice House on the Lakeand Spectrograph, and emphasized his desire for creative control on his stories.

There are X-Men stories that exist in my head; I hold them close to my chest, I still have Batman stories I didn’t get to… in emergency break glass. I have a handful of superhero stories ready and waiting when I need to.
However, Tynion was asked if he’dwrite X-Men as a horror comic, and he revealed he has several ideas for superhero stories. He also mentioned he still has ideas for Batman stories he never got to use during his time with the character.

James Tynion IV Still Has Ideas for FutureBatmanStories
Will Fans Ever Get a Chance to See Them?
James Tynion IV is a name many horror fans will recognize, but before Something is Killing the Children rocked the sales charts, Tynion made a name for himself at DC Comics. Tynion worked on projects likeBatman Eternal,Red Hood and the Outlaws, andBatman and Robin Eternalbefore he took overDetective Comicsduring the book’s relaunch in the “Rebirth” era. In 2020, Tynion took over the mainBatmantitle, which featured the “Joker War” arc, which saw Batman infamously lose his fortune, as well as “Fear State”.
However, in 2021, Tynion left his exclusive contract with DC Comics to focus on creator-owned work. After publishing original stories on Substack, Tynion created a new imprint, Tiny Onion Studios, under Dark Horse Comics to release previously published material as well as new stories such asBlue BookorThe Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos. Tynion also contributed to The Devil’s Cut, an anthology published by the creator-owned venture DSTLRY. However,Tynion did return to DC Comics to produceThe Nice House By the Seaunder the publisher’s Black Label title (later, under its relaunched Vertigo brand).

James Tynion IV Could Have a Great Opportunity to Return toBatmanSoon
With Zdarsky’s Run Ending Soon, Now’s the Best Time
While Tynion seems to be doing just fine without making superhero comics, it seems he still has a strong desire to write them again, especially Batman. It’s interesting that he likens them to a ‘in case of emergency, break glass’ mentality, and it makes one wonder just how epic in scale these stories must be. But is there room for another crop ofBatmanstories? Yes, in fact, with Chip Zdarsky’s run winding down in the next few months,it’d be the perfect time for Tynion to return and finish telling the stories he has in mind.
Tynion always brought something special to theBatmanline. He revamped the Bat-Family duringDetective Comicsand challenged Bruce in exciting and creative ways inBatman. It’d be great to see what else he has in store and there’s no doubt readers would welcome him with open arms. As long as James Tynion IV is open to it, he should absolutely return to DC Comics and tell theBatmanstories he’s been holding back all this time.
