TheDynamic Duomovie gets its first major update fromDCStudios in 2025 as the animated project is in development. As DC Studios is fully operating, many movies and TV shows are in the works, but both in the world of live-action and animation. One of them istheDynamic Duomovie, which will be the first theatrical animated film from DC Studios, as it is currently slated for 2028.

During a recent DC press event, whichScreenRantattended, DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran opened up more about theDynamic Duofilm.Safran stressed thatDynamic Duowill be a “coming-of-age” story about Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, as he stated the following:

Comic book art: Nightwing and Red Hood stand next to each other with their weapons.

Peter Safran: We’re also in pre-production on Dynamic Duo,which is a coming-of-age crowd-pleaser we’re producing with our partners at Swaybox [Studios] and Warner Brothers Pictures Animation. It’s written by the wonderfully talented Matt Aldrich, who a lot of from Coco fame. This animated tale of two Robins really provides a perfect on-ramp for the family audiences into the world of Gotham.

Interestingly, though, it was also revealed that the status of the project is currently liminal. While James Gunn expressed that he would “love for this animated puppet movie to be a part of the DCU”, he also explained there was a chance its story simply wouldn’t fit into the main universe, meaning there’s a real chance it may end up as an alternate universe Elseworlds project unless they find a way to make it work:

James Gunn: The reason I haven’t answered to this because there might be a way it might fit into the DCU. I would love for this animated puppet movie to be a part of the DCU. That’s really appealing to me, but the story is unique, and so it may not work within our universe.

What James Gunn & Peter Safran’s Dynamic Duo Comments Mean

While Dick and Jason have been explored both in animation and live-action across many DC properties,it is very rare to have them together and actually have a proper relationship between the two Robins. Based on the premise of Dynamic Duo,the DC Studios-produced animated filmwill take advantage of that missing factor, which allows the movie to stand out. Given that they are also givingDynamic Duothe theatrical treatment, it will also be a big platform for general audience members who have never even seen Dick and Jason.

What is also very exciting aboutDynamic Duois the idea of not only Jason and Dick having their coming-of-age developmentbut also a story where it’s just about them and not necessarily having Batman involved. While Batman could easily be alluded to, having Dick and Jason front and center allowsDynamic Duoto be more than just a movie about Batman’s first two sidekicks. Seeing Jason and Dick’s story on the big screen will be incredibly promising, even if it doesn’t end up being a part of the main DCU because the characters need to go in a different direction.

Our Take On Peter Safran’s Dynamic Duo Comments

Time will tell ifDynamic Duoends up being connected tothe DCU timeline, but it wouldn’t be shocking if the film is actually part of the overall continuity. Not only would this give another setup forThe Brave and The Boldmovie, but it would allow younger actors to potentially voice Jason and Dick before their grown-up counterparts in live-action are cast. Hopefully, asDynamic Duogets closer to getting into production, more information will be revealed about the film’s direction.
