The firstDC Universeproject from James Gunn and DC Studios has landed a premiere date, setting up the next era of DC content. While theSupermanmovie with David Corenswet will be the first film fromChapter 1, “Gods and Monsters,“the new DC Universe is getting an early start this fall. To end 2024, DC Studios is bringing the animatedCreature CommandosTV show to Max to give a taste of Gunn’s new continuity.
DC Studios and Max announced today thatCreature Commandoswill officially premiere on Thursday, December 5.Creature Commandosseason 1 consists of seven episodes that will be released weekly until July 17, 2025.
On social media,James Gunnunveiled the poster forCreature Commandos, while also teasing,“I’ll have more intel soon,“possibly indicating a new trailer is forthcoming. DespiteSupermanbeing the first movie in the DC Universe slate, there are a number of reasonsCreature Commandoswill be the kickoff to the new franchise. To begin with,Creature Commandoswas already something that Gunn was working on when he and Peter Safran were named co-CEOs of DC Studios. SinceSupermanwas affected by the Hollywood strikes in 2024,theCreature Commandoscastwas already in production and not affected due to it being an animated property.
It’s also crucial to remember that while animation definitely takes time to produce, it’s still a faster medium than a live-action film likeSuperman, which is currently in post-production.TheCreature Commandosstoryis also able to stand on its own without conflicting with other upcoming DC Universe projects. However,Creature Commandoscould still have a few teases about what is coming up in the DC Universe.
Rick Flag Sr., voiced byFrank Grillo inCreature Commandos,will make his live-action debut in theSupermanmovie, followed by an appearance inPeacemakerseason 2.
With the way that animation is going to interconnect with live-action in the DCU, time will tell what other animated projects will come afterCreature Commandos. From everything that was showcased inthe firstCreature Commandostrailer, it will be exciting to see these new characters come into the fold. AsCreature Commandosgets closer to its December 5 premiere, there will hopefully be more footage released in the next few months.
