Rhodes continued, pointing out howCena previously claimed it was “best for business"that he be competing in the main event ofWrestleMania 41.He said that while nobody was a better definition of “best for business” than Cena for many years, the business has now changed. Rhodes then discussed how he’s all that stands between Cena and breaking the record for most recognized world championship reigns in WWE history. Cena has been tied with Ric Flair at 16 reigns since 2017.
“Here’s a stat that will never be. It is simply one man’s dillusion, one man’s fantasy. And that is 17,” Rhodes said while looking up at the WrestleMania 41 sign. “Seventeen does not happen. But what does happen is I get the heartbreaking privlege of beating my hero in his last chance while he finds out what the rest of you already know. And he finds it out in real time. John, I’m the captain now.”

Rhodes will defend his title against Cena in the main event ofWrestleMania 41on April 20 at Allegiant Stadium. It will mark the sixth WrestleMania main event of Cena’s career and the third consecutive main event for Rhodes.
What Will John Cena’s Heel Persona Look Like?
Fans Haven’t Seen Cena Play A Villain In Over 20 Years
The March 17 episode ofWWE Rawwill answer one major question about Cena’s new heel persona -what about his presentation is going to change? Will he have new entrance music? 7 Heel John Cena Matches That Need To Happen Before His WWE Retirement
With John Cena’s Farewell Tour in full flow, there are so many exciting matchups for the WWE icon now that he’s a villain.
For now, only Cena knows the answers to those questions. Butan interview he conducted with Chris Van Vliet in 2024might provide some hints. Cena confirmed that WWE previously pitched the idea of him turning heel into 2012, prompting him tocompletely revamp his onscreen presentationbefore the company pulled back on the idea.

“I had seven new singlets, low-cut singlets with boxing-type robes,” Cena said at the time. “I already had the boots in storage, so I dusted them off. I was ready to go and already thinking about like what I could do with the story. Okay, what is a heel? A heel is not just new gear. The objectivity, or the message behind the singlet and the boxing robes and the boots is the exact opposite of what you saw with the street gear, the jeans shorts, the t-shirt, the ball cap, the sneakers. Go the opposite route and now lean into the opposite of everything you stand for. So I would begin to not work as hard. I would show up less, I would be untrustworthy and unloyal. I would lack respect in what I did. Like all you have to do is turn that on its [head].”
