DirectorKevin Smithclarifies new comments about an unexpected follow-up to his successful $43 million 1999 comedy classic. Smith rose to prominence as a wunderkind director who wrote, directed, produced, and edited his debut movieClerks, based on the day-to-day lives of New Jersey store clerks. Shot for $27,575 in the convenience and video stores where Smith worked in real life, the movie was bought by Miramax, who spent an additional $230,000 on editing and music licensing. The movie was released theatrically in 1994 and became a success, grossing $4.4 million, and launching Smith’s career, and spawning twoClerkssequels.
Considered one of the most influential figures in American independent cinema of the 1990s, Smith went on to have a checkered, but largely successful career, directing financially successful movies such asChasing AmyandCop Out, as well as box office bombs likeJersey GirlandYoga Hosers. In later yearsSmith’s filmographypivoted from comedy into movies containing darker elements, such as thriller and horror, includingRed StateandTusk, before revisiting past movies to produce sequels, such as theJay and Silent Bob Reboot. And there is the belief that another of Smith’s beloved 90s comedies could receive a sequel.

Our Take On Smith’s Dogma Sequel Comments
The Movie Has A Strong Chance of Happening If Affleck & Damon Are Involved
Smith’s fondness for revisiting his older movies, and developing sequels means aDogmafollow-up is likely. The director has seemingly had his experimental phase, and now looks to be returning to more familiar projects, which is one of the reasons I could seeDogma 2happening in the next few years.
However, Smith previously tried to make a sequel toMallrats, both as a movie and show, which were never greenlit. Much will depend on the availability of Affleck and Damon, whose involvement would all but confirm a greenlight, but they are bigger stars now, with busier schedules, soSmithmight need to call upon his unique friendship with the pair to secure their involvement in aDogmasequel.
