Fans of theX-Menwho have dreamed of bringing their own adventures to life in the franchise’s famous Xavier mansion now have a chance to do it in real life. Thanks to Marvel and LEGO, the pair’s biggest collaboration comes to life in the new X-Men: The Mansion.

Though the building’s appearance is based onthe iconicX-Men ‘97show, the set is a tribute to Marvel’sX-Menuniverse as a whole. Beginning with the structure of the mansion itself, the set comes with a buildable sentinel that works as an adversary for the X-Men to fight. This two-story building, which can be split apart into three sections, includes famous areas like the Danger Room, a lobby, a classroom, a lab, Cerebro, and Wolverine’s bedroom, among other unbelievable bits of fan service.

The LEGO Marvel X-Men: The X-Mansion Buildable Set includes a buildable Sentinel and 10 familiar minifigures – five of which will be showcased for the first time ever in a LEGO set! The new LEGO minifigures include Professor X, a new variation of Jean Grey, Gambit, Iceman and Bishop. With its realistic accessories, the set also features elements from the X-Mansion including Cerebro, switchable Danger Room items, an exploding cupola (dome-like structure), motorcycle for Wolverine, as well as graphical nods to the iconic X-Men franchise.

LEGO’s X-Men Mansion Honors Multiple Moments From The Original Comics

Besides Iceman’s inclusion, there are plenty of Easter Eggs throughout this set that reference the comics, including a tile depicting the first comic appearance of the X-Men. In the back alley of the mansion, there is a poster replicatingthe famousDays of Future Pastcomic cover. The first appearance of Gambit is referenced with “UX 266” (Uncanny X-Men#266) in the Danger Room, and the same goes for the villainous Sentinels with 141965 (X-Men#14, published in 1965). Even characters such as Pixie and Pyro have their names written on the walls, Nightcrawler and Dazzler are pictured, and more.

The veteran heroes Wolverine, Rogue, Cyclops, Storm, Magneto, and Jean Grey are all joined by Charles Xavier, Gambit, Bishop, and Iceman, who are all brand-new characters making their debuts in LEGO form. Most of these figures are based on their appearances inX-Men ‘97, but it’s Iceman’s inclusion that turns this set more into a celebration of all things X-Men.Iceman is one of the X-Men’s founding members, and including him gives this set a wider array of X-Men characters, not just ones featured prominently in the show.

While it would have been nice to find a way to include all five founding X-Men, Angel and Beast are missing from the set (though Beast is featured on a sticker teaching an online class). Fans of the TV show can hold out hope to one day bolster this set with the likes of Jubilee, Nightcrawler, Morph, or Sunspot. But even with an incomplete set of heroes, the LEGO X-Men: The Mansion set is a love letter to X-Men fans. Not just of the 1990s TV series, but of the long comics history, too.
