It’s eventually revealed that the two big bads were sent to a pocket universe where there are no living beings.

An Essential Crossover for Fans of Both Franchises
By sending Akuma and Thanos to battle in a pocket universe, the heroes of Marvel and Capcom wind up saving their respective universes without having to face either big bad in a straight fight. It’s a shame that readers don’t get to see how their epic battle plays out, as Ryu hints that Akuma and Thanos’ brawl could potentially go on forever. It feels like the perfect set-up for a longer story-line, one that could potentially fill an entire miniseries. Now that the games are readily available on consoles again, hopefully there will be moreMarvel vs. Capcomto see who wins betweenThanosandStreet Figher’sAkuma.
