NetherRealm Studios recently dropped the gameplay trailer for Ghostface inMortal Kombat 1’sKhaos ReignsDLC. Theinclusion of the iconic masked killerfrom theScreamfranchise took many by surprise, as he initially seemed like a rather boring character compared to the rest of the roster. Peacemaker and Eagly as they appear in Mortal Kombat 1

Simple Combat That Requires A Lot Of Strategy

Ghostface Has Many Ways To Deal With Opponents

Since Ghostface has never possessed any explicit magical powers or other special abilities, NetherRealm was greatly limited regarding what they could have him do in his moveset. However, despite only being equipped with a knife, it is clear that Ghostface has a lot of ways to deal with various opponents in combat. He has a crawling move to evade projectiles, multiple rushdown attacks to back opponents into a corner, and can even throw his knives if he is unable to get close.

The 10 Best Mortal Kombat 1 Animalities, Ranked

Animalities have returned to Mortal Kombat, and they’re just as wild and over the top as ever. While they’re all great, only some are truly the best.

The cleverest aspect of Ghostface’s moveset might be how NetherRealm managed to incorporate the fact that there aremultiple Ghostface killers in the movies. Whereas many other characters inMK1can teleport behind their opponent to dodge or strike, Ghostface hasother masked killers rush in from offscreen to deal a surprise attackfrom behind. It’s one of many great references to theScreamfranchise, and it shows that NeatherRealm pays attention to the media that it pullMortal Kombatguest characters from.

Ghostface sneaking up on Johnny Cage

Ghostface Has A Hilarious And Bloody Fatality

A Very Amusing Yet Brutal Finishing Move

Arguably the best part of Ghostface’s gameplay trailer is thereveal of his fatality, which starts with Ghostface going in to repeatedly stab his opponent, only for the camera to zoom out and revealJohnny Cage playingMK1in his homealone in the dark. He expresses his frustration about losing before Ghostface sneaks up and kills him, splattering blood all over the television screen. It’s a hilarious finishing move that translates the meta comedy of the films well, and bringing Johnny into the unexpected fourth wall break is perfect forMortal Kombat.

Ultimately, Ghostface’s moveset and fatality make him a very exciting addition to the roster. With so many clever references to the various Scream movies, there is a lot for long-time fans to enjoy and enough that’s likely to intrigue newcomers. Thanks to how much care NetherRealm has put into developing Ghostface, he should ultimately be a lot of fun to play inMortal Kombat 1.
