My Hero Academia’s final season is coming up in October 2025, and it will wrap up the epic, nearly decade-long storyline. However, the finale has had some complaints about it, and there’s one particular complaint that the anime could easily fix: it needs to featureVigilantes' hero Koichi Haimawari.
BeforeMy Hero Academiaseason 8 debuts,My Hero AcademiaVigilanteswill have premiered, and will be nearing the end of its run, if it hasn’t ended already. Thus, fans of the mainMy Hero Academiaanime will have been exposed to Koichi before seeing the finale of that series. Those fans might also be wondering what Koichi was up to during the final battle, and why he never showed up to help fight. While there is a good reason why he didn’t fight, Koichi actually does have a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in the finale, helping cleanup after the final battle in the manga.

The Anime Can Give Koichi a Bigger Cameo
Koichi Deserves to Meet Up With Deku
Without spoiling the end ofVigilantes, Koichi isn’t present in Japan to help fight against the Paranormal Liberation Front. Once the battle ends, he, along with many international heroes, is able to make his way to Japan to help with the aftermath. This is represented in the manga with a single panel, where Koichi is seen in his final costume fromVigilantes. The anime could easily turn this into a bigger scene if it wanted to, showing Koichi arriving with the other heroes from abroad and perhaps even meeting some of the major heroes from Japan who are there to welcome them–potentially even Deku.
Such a scene would exist purely for fanservice, but what harm could it really bring? While it would be cool to see Deku and Koichi fighting together, the next best thing is to at least have them meet face-to-face.And althoughMy Hero Academia’s anime has been fairly loyal to the manga, it has differed from it before, and withVigilantesabout to get a whole lot better known, this seems like the only logical place to allow for a proper crossover.

There is reason to think that some sort of crossover might be expected as well. Every time aMy Hero Academiamovie has been released, there has been some sort of tie-in, from entire episodes to just small scenes, as was the case withYou’re Next. A tie-in toVigilantesseems to be pretty likely considering they’re being produced at the same time, and this is the most logical way to do one. The anime could, of course, always attempt something else, but given the structure of the final battle, it’s hard to imagine what that might be.
Koichi Deserves a Main Series Shout Out
Vigilantes is Too Good to Not Have Some Sort of Crossover
WhileVigilantes' anime is only just starting, the manga actually concluded back in 2022. The series is held in high regard by mostMy Hero Academiafans who’ve read it, and there’s a decent argument to be madethatVigilantesis actually the better of the two series. Many fans were strongly looking forward to a crossover appearance by Koichi in the main manga afterVigilantesended, and his tiny appearance after the final battle didn’t quite satisfy their desires. By making it a bigger scene, these fans will at last get to see what they’ve been hoping for.
Beyond satisfying those fans, Koichi is simply too good of a character to not reference in some way. There are plenty of good reasons why the other characters inVigilanteswouldn’t get involved in the fight with the villains, but Koichi absolutely would, if he were in Japan. It must have been really weighing on him that he wasn’t able to contribute, and that would easily explain why he was one of the first to go to Japan once travel opened back up to help his home nation to recover.
Since fans ofMy Hero Academia’s anime will be familiar with Koichi before his main series cameo, Bones should really consider expanding that cameo to allow Koichi a chance to meet characters like Deku, and especially his hero, All Might. Koichi deserves the opportunity, and his willingness to help Japan recover is worthy of more recognition than a single panel in the manga. These kinds of anime-original scenes are hardly unprecedented, after all, and adding in some extra fanservice to the ending is a good way to keepMy Hero Academiafans happy.
