An official new photo fromStar Wars: Skeleton Crewsubtly doubles down onAhsoka’s galaxy-changing retcon, hinting at secrets of the Sith forerunners.Ahsokarewrote galactic history, revealing ancient Jedi legends were true; it saw Ahsoka discover thepathway to Peridea, an extragalactic world that seemed to be the origin of an intergalactic empire older than even the Jedi Order. Most striking of all, inscriptions on Peridea were written in an early version of theSith language of ur-Kittât.The Perideans were forerunners of the Sith.
The latest issue of Empire Magazine contains new photos fromStar Wars: Skeleton Crew, one of which teases a mysterious connection to the Perideans. In the photo,Jude Law’s mysterious “Jedi” is studying ur-Kittât inscriptions on a cavern wall.Skeleton Crewis confirmed to be set in Wild Space, a vast unexplored sector of space that includes the very outskirts of the galaxy; it looks as though this show is continuing the story told inAhsoka, with more revealed (or, at least, hinted at) about the ancient intergalactic empire.

What Skeleton Crew’s New Photo Means For Star Wars
Viewers have understandably tended to assumeStar Wars: Skeleton Crewis largely disconnected from the wider franchise. This new photo hints nothing could be further from the truth; there’s a reasonSkeleton Crewis concurrent withAhsokaandThe Mandalorian. It continues the ongoing story told in this part of theStar Warstimeline, one that rewrites the history of the galaxy.
So far, precious little is known about this intergalactic empire. It appears to have begun when the Perideans learned how to use purrgil to travel across the intergalactic void, and they encountered another ancient race known as the Zeffo (who are detailed in theJedi: Fallen Ordergame). An ancient Zeffo dark sider named Kujet established himself as emperor, although the extent of his empire is unknown; even the language of this empire, ur-Kittât, is steeped in the dark side. Millennia later, the Sith would be inspired by the remnants and relics of Kujet’s empire. Will more finally be revealed?
Our Take On Skeleton Crew’s Promise
Marketing has barely begun forStar Wars: Skeleton Crew, a project which remains shrouded in mystery. It feels like the perfect Christmas fare; a group of children from an Earth-like planet find themselves wandering the galaxy, and even team up with someone they believe to be a Jedi. Butthis photo suggests there is far more to this story than has previously been teased.
But is this a major plot, or some kind of sub-plot only noticeable to viewers who are already tuned in to the latestStar Warsretcons? It’s too soon to say either way; Lucasfilm remain extremely secretive about this show, and we know surprisingly little about the cast and characters. Hopefully it won’t be long before anotherStar Wars: Skeleton Crewtrailer comes out, dropping more hints.
