Hogwarts Legacymay have subtly set itself up for a trilogy with one strange plot detail.Hogwarts Legacyis one of the biggest video games of the generation, anda sequel has already been confirmedas a priority for Warner Brothers.
There’s no word on when exactly it will be released or what it will even look like, but it will probably be a few years before anything official materializes. At the very least, it seems as though the firstHogwarts Legacymay have some subtle clues to the direction of a sequel.

Hogwarts Fan Has A Theory On Year Five
Perhaps A Trilogy Was Planned
Over on Reddit, userpotter101833noted that there’s something peculiar about whereHogwarts Legacybegins its story. Unlike Harry Potter,Hogwarts Legacychooses to start its protagonist at the wizarding school in year five, over halfway through a student’s total tenure at Hogwarts. While most students begin at 11 years old,Hogwarts Legacy’s hero is about 16 years old.
The Reddit user noted that given there are seven years at Hogwarts, this storytelling decision couldsuggest aHogwarts Legacytrilogy has been planned from the jump. Of course, it’s just speculation, but it’s a reasonable one, given the specific starting point.

What Could a Hogwarts Legacy Trilogy Look Like?
Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Feature The Same Protagonist
Hogwarts Legacy’s story is fairly conclusive. Itdoesn’t have some big cliffhanger or post credits scene, it’s a rare entry in such a major IP that doesn’t leave a dangling carrot in front of fans. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other threats that could emerge or adventures to go on in aHogwarts Legacysequel.Hogwarts Legacy 2couldbring back the first game’s protagonist, similar to a game likeMass Effect, which lets players port their created character over between games. Returning as a sixth-year student means they’ll be more experienced and likely have new opportunities within Hogwarts, such as new, powerful spells to learn.

Of course,Hogwarts Legacy’s decision to start players at year five could be purely logistical. Making players play as an 11-year-old may not be very fun, as kids in games can be tricky. Avalanche runs the risk of annoying the player if not written or performed well, and that’s far from ideal. It also feels more implausible for an 11-year-old to survive the dangerous encounters ofHogwarts Legacy. The target audience for the game likely aligns closer to older teenagers rather than pre-teens as well.

Ultimately,Hogwarts Legacymay be setting the stage for a trilogy with some subtle, yet intentional storytelling decisions. However, no one will know for certain, likely for years to come. Either way, if this does turn out to be the case, hopefully, players will be able to carry over their character between games and continue developing them in exciting ways.
