Warning: Contains spoilers for One Piece Fan Letter. One Piece’s Paramount War arc is often hailed as one of the best arcs in the series, but that’s usually only when talking about the manga. Its anime adaptation happened whenOne Piecehad infamously poor pacing and visuals, and because of that, the anime’s take on the Paramount War arc is commonly seen as a poor representation of an otherwise stellar arc.
For years, people have wanted to see what a version of the Paramount War arc would look like with better visuals and direction, especially after the massive overhaul in the anime’s visuals since the Wano arc and the announcement of Netflix’sOne Pieceremake,The One Piece. While there’s no way of knowing if something like that is on the table,One Piece’s anniversary special,One Piece Fan Letter, has given a great look at what a remake of the Paramount War arc would look like, and the result is one of the anime’s most gorgeous endeavors of all time.

One Piece’s Best Arc Finally Gets The Animation It Deserves
One Piece Fan Letteris set at the beginning of the post-timeskip era, and with that timeframe, it naturally featured flashbacks to the Paramount War. Some scenes were from the original arc, others were original scenes from the perspective of new characters, and in both cases,One Piece Fan Letterrecreated the Paramount War arc with artwork, animation, and overall direction far above anything in the original arc. With how lackluster the original arc was, it’s great to see what it would look like with improved visuals and visuals that are among the best of anyOne Pieceproject.
A lot of why the Paramount War arc scenes look so good is because of the director, Megumi Ishitani. Ishitani is one of Toei Animation’s most celebrated animators and directors of the past decade thanks to her work onOne PieceandDragon Ball Super, all of which involves giving a project incredibly gorgeous and creative visuals from start to finish. One Piece Fan Letterwas essentially an excuse for Megumi Ishitani to have complete freedom with her animation, and that led to the special being one ofOne Piece’s most visually interesting projects of all time, by far.

Could Any One Piece Arc Really Get A Remake?
Is A Remake Possible For One Piece?
As great as a hypothetical remake of the Paramount War arc would be,One Piece’s weekly schedule has been notoriously hectic for years to the point that the anime will go on hiatus for six months, with a remastered version of theFishman Island arcairing in its place. At best, the most people could hope for in a remake ofOne Piece’s Paramount War arc is something in the same vein as the Fishman Island remaster, but that’s hardly to the same extent as what was shown inOne Piece Fan Letter.
At this point, the only way to expect a Paramount War arc remake would be ifNetflix’sThe One Piecemakes its way to the arc, but not only would that take years, but there’s also no guarantee Megumi Ishitani or anyone else involved withOne Piece Fan Letterwould direct it.A hypothetical remake of the Paramount War arc likely wouldn’t look as good as anything inOne Piece Fan Letter, but even then, the special is a great look into what’s possible for modernOne Piece, and it will hopefully become the norm for the franchise, going forward.
