The long-runningPokémonanime series is teasing something big for March 14th, though it’s unclear what at this time. The tease comes courtesy of thePokémon anime’s official X account, though few other details were revealed aside from a short video depicting key art ofPokémon Horizonsprotagonists Liko and Roy.
Whether the post is teasing the announcement of a new season ofHorizonsor if it’s announcing a movie remains to be seen, but what is clear is that the series is trying to build hype for something big. Though a new season, possibly one tying into theupcomingPokemonLegends Z - Agame, is likely, the lack of any information about the upcoming announcement aside from the March 14th date makes it difficult to say for sure.

What We Think Pokémon Horizons' March 14th Announcement Could Be
The use ofHorizonskey art as opposed to something original makes it difficult to tell what exactlyPokémon’sanime has up its sleeve. Though a new season would be welcome given thewarm reception toHorizonsfrom long-term Pokémon fans, the fact that a new season is pretty much a guarantee would make all this hype seem a bit unnecessary.
More exciting than a new season would be the announcement of a movie. Pokémon’s last movie was 2020’sPokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, and though plans for morePokémon movies were confirmed in the massive 2024 Game Freak leak, those plans ultimately had to be scuttled for a variety of reasons (including the Pandemic). The result has been that a franchise famous for its yearly movie releases hasn’t released a cinematic adventure in more than four years.

Ash Is A Great Pokémon Trainer, But The 7 Toughest Gym Leaders He Fought Made Him Seriously Struggle
Ash has had some difficult gym battles over the years, and these matches may well be among the hardest he’s ever had to battle.
What makes the lack of any recent Pokémon movie even more galling is the relative success ofHorizons. The 2023 anime shifted focus away from Ash and to two new protagonists in Liko and Roy. Though Ash was beloved and iconic, it’s clear the move away from his story is paying off, as the fandom has embracedHorizons. The prospect of getting a movie starring Liko and Roy is undeniably enticing and would only benefit the series.

What We Can Be Pretty Sure Pokémon’s March 14th Announcement Won’t Be
Anything is possible, of course, but there is one big thing fans can be pretty sure the announcement won’t be. Given the key art of Liko and Roy used, fans can be relatively certain that the announcement won’t be about any sort of solo-adventure for Ash. His return to the anime would be huge, of course, but if that is what Pokémon has up its sleeve, then it would have to be strictly in the context of meeting and interacting with Liko and Roy.
The scrapped 2021 Pokémon movie would have actually shifted focus away from Ash beforeHorizons.
Still, while it is possible Ash could team up with Liko and Roy in either a new movie or even an episode ofHorizons, that seems unlikely. If Ash were returning in some capacity, then fans would expect to some sort of hintof that in the X post, but nothing obvious is jumping out.
All put together, it seems most likely that Pokémon is gearing up to announce a new season ofHorizonson March 14th. However, given the hype they’re trying to build, the possibility of something bigger is definitely real. Regardless of what happens,Pokémonfans have every reason to keep an eye on the anime’s X account on March 14th.
