Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket’s next set will have a big upgrade compared toGenetic Apex.Space-Time Smackdownwas just announcedforPokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, bringing a number of Gen 4 Pokémon to the game. The new set will add numerous new Pokémon cards, including Pokémon Tool cards, which can be attached to Pokémon cards to enhance their abilities.
Pokémon TCG Pocketrevealed that the new set will have at least one major difference fromGenetic Apex,as the trailer forSpace-Time Smackdownconfirms that the set will feature two booster pack types, one featuring Palkia and the other featuring Dialga.By comparison,Genetic Apexfeatured three booster pack types andMythical Islandfeatured one booster pack type. Assumedly, the two different packs will feature different cards, although that was not officially confirmed as part of today’s announcement. More details will likely be revealed when the app is updated withSpace-Time Smackdowndata.

Why Two Booster Packs Is A Big Deal For Space-Time Smackdown
Two Pack Choices Could Indicate A Smaller Set & Will Force Less Choices On Players
There are two big implications forSpace-Time Smackdownbased on the new booster packs. The first is thatSpace-Time Smackdowncould have fewer cards thanGenetic Apex. While the set is internally called “A2” in comparison toGenetic Apex’s “A1,” that doesn’t necessarily guarantee that the set will have the same number of cards.PhysicalPokémon TCGsets often have very different numbers of cards from set to set, with some sets containing nearly 100 fewer than others.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Fan Warns Players About Not Being Able To Open New Packs
Players have discovered that there’s a hard limit on their Pokémon TCG Pocket Pack Points - though there may be a perfectly good reason for it.
The other major implication is that cards will be easier to collect inPokémon TCG Pocket. One big flaw aboutGenetic Apexis that the cards were split between three card sets, each of whichhad their own exclusive cards.Although more common cards were relatively easy to collect, players functionally had less chances for a rare card as they were all limited to one of the three card packs.Players had to choose which cards they wanted to chase, which prevented them from collecting cards in other sets.

Our Take: Two Packs Is Perfect For A Large Set Like Space-Time Smackdown
A Smart Decision For The Game
Reducing the number of pack types inSpace-Time Smackdownhelps ease one of the most frustrating parts of the game. When I first started playing, I focused on getting certain cards from theGenetic Apex - Mewtwopacks. I eventually got those cards (from a Wonder Pick of all things) but it meant that I didn’t pull cards like Pikachu ex or Charizard ex until relatively later compared to other players. While that still might be a problem withSpace-Time Smackdown, it should be a bit less pronounced now that there are fewer packs to choose from in the newestPokémon TCG Pocketset.
