A White Kyurem was featured in theDragon Majestyset in 2018, making this the first time a Black or White Kyurem appeared in the TCG in at least five years.

The triumphant return of the Black Kyurem was greeted by a wave of reminiscingby longtime fans of the trading card game. UserSamaritanon PokéBeach writes, “A couple of my first ‘rare’ cards that I ever pulled with my own money were Black Kyurem and White Kyurem EX from Legendary Treasures. A lot of nostalgia seeing this.” Fans also praise the gorgeous artwork on the card, created by veteranPokémonartist Kawaguchi Yoohei, aka Kawayoo.

The reveal of Black Kyurem ex amongSurging Sparks' first cardsalso brings up some questions about what else is coming. A special illustration rare version of the card is unlikely, butit’s not unlikely that players will see a White Kyurem soon. The white version of the rare Pokémon wouldn’t be out of place in theParadise Dragonaset, which is a dragon-themed set created to celebrate the year of the Dragon. However, the two types of Kyurem aren’t always released in unison, so whether it’s coming is still up in the air.

When the Black Kyurem ex card joins thePokémon Trading Card Game,it will be a Water-type, not a Dragon-type. The card will first appear in the Japan-exclusive set in September. Fans in the West will have to wait a bit longer for a chance to get the card when theSurging Sparkscards launch in November.
